Skull Session: Jeremiah Smith Thinks He and Ryan Williams Are “The Best Receivers in the Country” and Five Buckeyes Appear Among the Top Newcomers in College Football
It is very had to argue with Jeremiah here. It is unbelievable how good he has been.
His incredible physical strength at 18 resulted in the horrible offensive PI call on Saturday.
I have not watch Bama play but the highlight reel generated by Ryan Williams has been very impressive.
Being a native of Ohio and Cleveland and living through decades of coming up just short (TY OSU for 2 National Titles), even I am overcoming that nagging feeling that he plays like a freshman at some point.
Whatever. The counter argument is actually pretty obvious. Dude wasn't even one of the two best receivers in Autzen Stadium. Seriously. It's only been a few games. He made a few nice catches and outran some DBs from Akron Northwest State or wherever. I'm done with all this BIA BS. What "massive talent advantage" do we bring against other top teams? I mean, c'mon. This hubris is the main reason why fans who buy the bullshit are shocked and angry when we get beat, and it may very well contribute to our underperformance against other top teams. Day should not allow his players to talk like this.
Yeah, "after the game." Then, it's not stupid. They absolutely humiliated our "Best in America" backfield. It's not a high horse, man. You talk shit after you've won the game. Because when you proclaim yourself BIA and get pantsed, you look like a damn fool.
Well your original comment sounded like you are against HUBRIS of any kind but now it’s ok to do it after the game? Maybe pick one lane and stay in it? I think you simply want to hate on a buckeye player because they lost. Call it what it is
Yes, it's 100% OK after any game to say, "Ha ha, you said you're the best but we're better than you" after beating someone who talked big before the game. That's not hubris. That's some pretty basic schoolyard stuff, right there. Also, if your paraphrase is correct (I didn't see the comments myself) the Oregon guys weren't declaring themselves better than all other teams. They weren't saying "Actually, we're the Best In America, capital B, capital I, capital A". They were giving our guys on both sides of the ball a very well deserved "haha you suck." --- I'm not saying Smith or any other Buckeyes suck. Not at all. But Oregon players 100% earned the right to say whatever they want.
Through six games, Smith has 34 touches (32 receptions, two carries) for 585 yards and eight touchdowns, while Smith has 24 touches (23 receptions, one carry) for 578 yards and seven scores.
So by my math, Smith has 58 touches (55 receptions, 3 carries, 1163 yards and 15 TD's.
Watching the clip from the Bama game and trying to be positive; the Georgia DB looks a little more lost than Denzel Burke was on Saturday night. Oh, and their vaunted defense gave up 41 to a very average Bama squad.
"The day they laid poor Poncho low, Lefty split for O-HI-O".
The X was the best radio station in the history of the universe. I heard so much great music that wasn't allowed to be played on American stations. Just like those ships off the coast of the UK broadcasting Rock.
Jeremiah is a generational talent, I honestly didn't think he would sign here in the end, pay Hartline whatever he wants! We still get 2 more seasons at minimum from this kid so the best is yet to come!
I mean I LIKE when I hear about all the good stuff OSU players do in the NFL, but it is mild like, not even close to the 2 NC's I witnessed as an adult. I also enjoyed the 68 NC as a child, but didn't know how special they were then. Of course most of our fans, me included, expected that team to win 2 more.
“the best” which we all agree with, but when lined up with blatant one on one coverage, we dont use his abilities, we don’t audible out of plays to throw it up to him. So disappointing. He can be a difference maker at anytime, yet we only let him go 10-15 yds. Yes i know he has had a couple deep balls, but open it up and make the defense respect the deep ball so we can run more efficiently when playing teams of equal talent.
I dont often hate, but when I do...I hate _ichigan Wolverines. Stay victorious my friends.
Basketball is the #2 sport in the state? Tell me you’ve never been to Cincinnati without telling me you’ve never been to Cincinnati (specifically the Findlay Market parade for Opening Day).

JJ is probably the best most physical, fast, great body control, phenom hands @ WR I've seen since Megatron. Williams is electric, jittery, twitchy as can be great body control. Crazy to think how young they are, freshman don't just walk in and start at these two programs, says alot about how they handle themselves and take control of opportunities.
I will pound you and pound you until you quit - Woody Hayes
Praising yourself as being one of the best is...awful. I get that national fame is hard for a young kid to deal with. Hopefully his coaches and mentors on the team can give him some pointers on humility (in general, but especially with regards to the media).
Football is a team sport. Winning the games, as a team, is all that matters. I'd love it if our players stuck to this 100%, instead of letting the media bog them down with questions about stats, individual awards, etc. Don't take the bait.
Bruh hes a receiver. Ever hear cris carter talk about cris? These guys need that mentality to go out and do the things they do. I havent heard anyone say hes a bad teammate nor have i seen him yelling at howard or day to get him more touches. I havent seen him throw anyone under the bus in interviews either.
If we’re wondering if Day is worth the money, just take a look at USC and Lincoln Riley. I don’t have any proof to back this up, but I feel like they were the two most coveted head coaches from the new generation of head coaches. Imagine if we had Riley where we would be. Day is absolutely worth the money. Also, I truly appreciate the culture. He has brought to Ohio State along with the current Senior leaders on the team. They have their heads on straight.
"Oh, that's really the same story, different chapter, girl! You see, the football is like a one-man cold to Jeremiah Smith. Jeremiah Smith the only one catchin' it, Jeremiah Smith the only one comin' down wit' it!"
But here’s what I’d love to see more: Get all the Division I programs involved. That could be too tall a task for Diebler and Co. to tackle off the bat, but if this tournament ever comes to fruition, I’d want to see Akron, Bowling Green, Cleveland State, Kent State, Miami, Ohio, Toledo, Youngstown State and Wright State in there, too.
I am a Dayton Fan, Born and Raised in Centerville, old enough to have listened to the UD team make it to the Elite 8 and lost to Patrick Ewing and Michael Graham. Went to Numerous games at the UD Arena as my grandfather had season tickets. Dayton used to play UC and Miami every year, home and home and they were great games for the fans.
To put all the Ohio teams like that into a "tournament" though I think would be a mistake. It waters down the pool, the excitement and quite honestly the talent and play. I love the MAC and they have some really good teams, but their fan bases arent comparable to UD, UC, X and OSU.
Bob Huggins on 700WLW in the mid 90s had said that for him to take a job in Ohio, which is what he wanted to do, he only would have gone to a school with a chance to win a national championship. He believed that there were 3 schools in Ohio that could do that, UC (Obviously), OSU and UD. He thought X was close, but not quite.
Yeah, an in-state tournament with Ohio State, Cincinnati, Xavier, and Dayton would be cool. Even if it's just one game apiece would be OK. No need to water this down with the likes of Cleveland State, Youngstown State, or MAC schools. No one gets excited about playing them. It becomes less feasible as well by making the event bigger and longer.
Regarding your Hoops Hoops Hoops, hard to get teams from the same conference unless you can guarantee they will not play each other...for obvious reasons. Need to determine if a MAC school would get paid more for playing OSU at the Schott or in the tournament. Love the idea of a State Tournament. UC, X, UD and OSU are the big 4 & all from different conferences. What could be fun would be to pair that tournament with a high school tournament - maybe schools from Indiana, Kentucky, _ichigan, Ohio and PA.
I have to be honest I think it’s pretty silly to create a list of top newcomers and then fill it up with guys who transferred from other programs where they’d previously had successful careers. Just my opinion, but I think top newcomers should be guys who’ve never seen significant playing time for any team before and are now making an impact on the game.
Smith is an incredible talent and will no doubt break many if not all OSU receiving records before his time in Columbus is done. Having said that, I don't like to hear pronouncements like that coming from a freshman or coming from the individual at all. Let someone else say that about you, don't you be the one to say it. In addition, it's smart to be respectful. There is a guy called Egbuka in your own room, after all.
I'd go along with Smith and Williams being the two best WRs in college football right now, but after seeing Oregon, they might be even deeper than us at the position..Very impressive the amount of quality there that they showed, even after the former Bama thug got thrown out.

Agreed 100%.
Oregon’s receivers after the game talked about OSU db’s never seeing anyone like them before. They all do and say stupid shit. Get off your high horse

Can definitely respect that opinion.
Edit required: In the paragraph where you cite Smith’s and Williams’ statistics, you call them both “Smith”.
:)
As wild as that two-headed player named Smith’s stars would be, Ashton Jeanty has 126 carries for 1,248 yards (9.9 ypc) and 17 TDs.

"The day they laid poor Poncho low, Lefty split for O-HI-O".
The Georgia secondary is good at cheap shots (maybe I’ll get over the hit to Harrison someday) but aren’t great at covering WRs.
I haven’t watched Williams, only his few highlights. Not sure how good he is at route running but he does put up some nice numbers.

Reminds me of the old ZZTop song " I heard it ,I heard it, I heard it on the X." LOL Man, I'm old.

I think all the originals met at McKinley, right? The one tie I know to Shaker Heights is Eddie Levert had a house there.
Correction - Ohio's second sport is saying "ope, lemme just get by here" while walking by someone.

Until Texas, Miami, Oregon etc. all offer him bigger money.
or maximize your earning potential by playing with Julian Sayin for two more years.

I agree with you to some extent. But Will Howard's weakest attribute is the deep ball. The few he has connected on this year have been underthrown.

What will JJ do next should be the discussion in Buckeye nation in this bye week. Not "how does a 5 star defense give up 500 yards?" Keep working.

Bucks just lost a huge game with lots to talk about. 11W: But lets post another article about how good J Smith is. Pumping sunshine and rainbows bs

It's tough to doubt Jeremiah Smith on his claim here. The dude is balling out at an alarming rate and his counter part in Alabama is as well.
