If we’re wondering if Day is worth the money, just take a look at USC and Lincoln Riley. I don’t have any proof to back this up, but I feel like they were the two most coveted head coaches from the new generation of head coaches. Imagine if we had Riley where we would be. Day is absolutely worth the money. Also, I truly appreciate the culture. He has brought to Ohio State along with the current Senior leaders on the team. They have their heads on straight.

I know you’re not supposed to whine and complain about the referees but here we now have proof we’re not crazy. It was a total bullshit move that Oregon made, and almost completely unprecedented to change the rule to close this cheating method in season. We got a right to complain. “The Lanning Rule.” Enjoy the eternal infamy, jackass. You and Conor Stallions should start a cheating POS Podcast. The “POS POD.”
Let’s avoid these self defeating narratives. I’ve always said that I have no problem coming up short in games so long as we play our best. The enemy has a vote. It is rare air when we lose under Day, but that comes with the territory. NIL is proving to make every team “unknowable” because one year ago they sucked—and maybe they’ve always sucked—but now they’re legit because of mercenaries. I’m just gonna enjoy sitting here with everything attainable in front of us in my multiple OSU paraphernalia I’m wearing right now. We’re getting close to a dynasty.
Definitely. I feel like Caleb Downs was a bit absent as well. Maybe I was missing all the great things he was doing, but a safety with his skill he would think would be in a better position to help out the struggling Burke. I feel like Malik Hooker would’ve never allowed that to happen for instance. That dude used to come out of nowhere to get an interception or whatever.
I’m an Ohio Players guy, myself. Their O-H-I-O song is on my regular playlist. So good.
Agreed. I mean, I hope they can all have a good laugh watching film this week. We seem to always soul search after a loss and want to fire half the coaching staff. But my God. He was just so singularly bad. The stop rate in the fourth quarter is concerning, but I think that’s more due to the fact that teams are just really trying hard to get something done late in the game. For pretty much every game this season it’s been the second and third string in the fourth quarter which I think also contributes to that poor stop rate in the fourth quarter. We call that lying with statistics. I think our defense with the exception of the last game has been silver bullet quality. And again, If you take Denzel Burke out of the equation, then they played very well overall. Yes, we want to see sacks, But like Nick Bosa, who had 14 pressures Sunday, you don’t always have to get to the quarterback to affect him. And truly Dylan Gabriel balled out. Nothing you can do about that. And the receivers played very well. Again, nothing you can do about that.
It’s hard to put a game on one guy, but Denzel Burke was so bad—watching the replays above—that you pretty much could put it on him. I mean wow. How can you look to build or learn on defense when one particular guy is getting torched and trying to shoulder tackle everyone. He needed help or to be benched for a bit. If you take away the big plays on him alone you take 21 points of the board. I hope he gets it figured out for the rest of the season.
This is the key distinction and why Lanning needs to be disciplined somehow. It was intentional and unsportsmanlike. It’s one thing if it just happens on accident, but he called a timeout and intentionally took advantage of the situation. Shame on him and their entire program
Because we don’t cheat.
Call it the POS Lanning rule.
if only it were just one play. we still haven’t heard what was going on with Denzel Burke. The athletic wrote an entire on what Dan Lanning did on gaming the system with the clock there. It’s not a good look for them. Not a good look for the referees either. Thankfully, the loss didn’t hurt us at all, and we will likely be back up to number two perhaps even number one after beating Penn State. They keep trying to make the game safer and making sure that it is fair. They need to make a blanket rule that defensive penalties cannot negatively affect the offense in anyway. Especially ones that are obvious. at a minimum, the time should go back on the clock. And, if the offense score scores a touchdown or makes a positive play with 12 men on the field then by all means the office should be able to decline the penalty and the time runs off the clock. This isn’t that hard. But that was one of three or four BS moments that the officiating crew got wrong. Yes, we move forward, but in doing so we must believe in this team and the coaches and leave all this negativity behind. Our guys fought hard last week and came up short. That happens in games. At least we are not talking about a loss to Iowa or Purdue or somebody like we had to deal with a few times with urban Meyer, Ryan Day always has his team ready to go and has so far not embarrassed us.
Oregon coach is a cheating fucking asshole. He needs to be regarded the way we regard the cheating bitch Jim Harbaugh. we will face this motherfucker again, and we will curb stomp his ass. He needs to be fined or suspended. Just like the rest of the officiating crew who took away our time out an opportunity to kick a field goal.. Ohio State needs to respond like the Roman army, that eventually obliterated Carthage and salted the Earth. That is the justice they deserve. Will Howard is a quarterback, genius who was clearly looking at the clock and slid with enough time to use our last time out and should be praised rather than looked at as some kind of idiot. He should be the first quarterback drafted next year if any NFL team has half a brain. He is the next coming of Josh Allen. I would love for the Browns to pick him up.
Get amnesia, everyone. Next game. Think of this more like the nfl season. We get more shots. We need to stop acting like it’s the end of the world.
Fourth is respectable. I can live with that. Any further than it’s BS. We managed to not win or lose as close as you can not win as possible. I’m still shaking my head about whatever it was I watched last night. In the military we would call that a “total clusterf*ck.”
Thanks, AZ. Agreed. I’ve only seen OPI when the ball is in the air and the WR clearly pushes the DB or whatever, not OPI when the initial contact is made. That is typically a defensive holding call at the clash.
I’m as guilty as anyone for not being OK with any loss, but my God, imagine being an Alabama fan after losing to Vanderbilt! We cannot win all the games. It’s impossible. What we do after the losses are what define us the most. I have no doubt that Oregon will drop a couple games this season. No doubt. They did what they needed to do last night, and caught a number of breaks. The refs lost total control of the game at the end and the mob ruled. But we press on. Not time to slit our wrists. You couldn’t have a “better loss.”
I mean, we were never in a position where the game was out of control. Ever. I’m not sure what was going on with Burke last night, but he is a stellar player who had a bad night. It happens. We’ve been conditioned by every season to believe it’s over now, but it’s just getting started. We’ll probably slide to five and life moves on. You will never find a more bizarre last minute of a game than last night. The mob that stormed the field prevented us from being given our last time out. It’s inexcusable. And the refs and Oregon will be reprimanded and fined, but it’s over now. I think we needed to call that TO when the play clock started moving after the BS OPI call. The referees are supposed to blow a whistle to indicate the clock is moving again. I don’t know if that was a brain fart on their part but Day should have called the TO. Oh well. It was, as they say, a series of unfortunate events. It was a bizarre game from start to finish and one that we win 8 out of 10 times. Oregon is just desperate to be relevant. Desperate. And it shows.
Maybe I’ve reached some sort of Zen state here, but this game doesn’t really bother me at all. It was just about as evenly matched as possible and frankly was the actual greatest game in college football in the last 40 years that Paul Finebaum used to describe whatever that was With Georgia and Alabama a few weeks ago. You’re not gonna find a more evenly matched team than what we saw tonight. Stats are almost identical. Whatever the hell happened at the end of the game there is anybody’s guess. I re-watched everything from the Smith penalty to the end and there were a lot of questions. What a huge penalty. I’ve only seen that called when it’s egregious or when the ball is in the air and the wide receiver, shoves the defender just as he’s about to catch the ball. Not in the case for a wide receiver is breaking into his route. The issue I have mostly is that the referees chose not to blow the whistle signaling. The clock started after the penalty. The only referee I saw signal was behind Will Howard by about 30 yards near the sideline. Perhaps they should’ve called the timeout then but I don’t know. This sure doesn’t feel like a loss. And if you would’ve told me before tonight, that Denzel Burke would’ve gotten torched for three touchdowns, I would have never believed you. He’s probably either a little under the weather or a little gimpy. Regardless, let’s not all slit our wrists here. This loss is the best thing that could’ve happened to Ohio State at this point. Now the pressure is off. The boys can play loose. Nobody’s chasing some sort of Miami Dolphins 1972 perfect perfection bullshit. Just like we did a decade ago after losing to a much shitty team in Virginia Tech, this team can come home with a one point bizarre ending to a game that didn’t result in a victory, pretend it’s a stinging loss, and go out there and wreak havoc for the rest of the season. Sunshine, fanatics, and summer buckeyes exit through the door on the right. Go Bucks!
It’s like a high school stadium in Ohio.
Three things at the end there. Number one that was a total bullshit offensive pass interference call. They were within the 5 yards and both hand fighting. That never gets called unless the ball is in the air and the receiver pushes off to catch the pass. Secondly, after the penalty, there was never a whistle blown to restart the clock. I watched it three or four times to try to hear. There is a referee signaling behind Will Howard by about 30 yards, but no whistle. They’re supposed to blow a long whistle and wave their arm. The reason everybody was standing around looking at each other and letting 12 seconds off the clock and nobody knew what was going on. And then, lastly, will Howard slides with one second left and we were signaling a time out. Time out should’ve been called with one second left on the clock. I’ve never seen a more bizarre game than this in my entire life. The officiating crew really really screwed this up. It will be the talk of the town all week.
it’s more likely that he doesn’t want to have bad tape by not doing anything tonight if he was playing.
I can hear the excuses building for what’s gonna happen tonight
no I don’t think we would. Maybe for Michigan or a Penn State game. But certainly not Oregon.
Classless Mallard fans. Really? They really think they’re on our level, and our rival. We don’t even think about them. You’d think that in the quaint Pacific Northwest they’d produce a kinder, gentler, more courteous fan. Oh well, get dumped then, bum juice. Bucks by 28.
This would be an absolutely legendary move. Narcos approved!
