But here’s what I’d love to see more: Get all the Division I programs involved. That could be too tall a task for Diebler and Co. to tackle off the bat, but if this tournament ever comes to fruition, I’d want to see Akron, Bowling Green, Cleveland State, Kent State, Miami, Ohio, Toledo, Youngstown State and Wright State in there, too.

I am a Dayton Fan, Born and Raised in Centerville, old enough to have listened to the UD team make it to the Elite 8 and lost to Patrick Ewing and Michael Graham. Went to Numerous games at the UD Arena as my grandfather had season tickets. Dayton used to play UC and Miami every year, home and home and they were great games for the fans.

To put all the Ohio teams like that into a "tournament" though I think would be a mistake. It waters down the pool, the excitement and quite honestly the talent and play. I love the MAC and they have some really good teams, but their fan bases arent comparable to UD, UC, X and OSU.

Bob Huggins on 700WLW in the mid 90s had said that for him to take a job in Ohio, which is what he wanted to do, he only would have gone to a school with a chance to win a national championship. He believed that there were 3 schools in Ohio that could do that, UC (Obviously), OSU and UD. He thought X was close, but not quite.

I really like Will Howard. His sincerity, upbeat personality, positive attitude etc. He is growing and improving each week. One area I dont see hi musing enough and / or quick enough at times is the dump down to the RB.

On the very first play of the last drive, where he slipped and went down. Treveyon Henderson sneeks out to the wide side, no one is with him, a single WR is running a post with the DB running with him. the only safety within 20 yards has shifted towards the diddle of the field. A quick out to him would easily have got 10+ yards. Make 1 guy miss and/or the WR blocks his man, Treveyon could take it all the way. This is something that CJ became very good at seeing and doing quickly. Howard will get there I believe. He will see things like this in the film and make adjustments. This team will continue to get better assuming the defense starts inproving as well

But if you have 3 wide and / or a TE/RB - then you have spread out the defense and a seam route, a leaking RB, a 15 yard crossing route (even in a zone where the WR sits in space. These have been routes we had every year, even though we threw more to the outs, still a lot of items in the middle as well. The point of the spread - making the defenders DEFEND the width of the field, but if you aren't using the middle, you have defeated the point.

13 passes out of 130 are between the hashmarks and beyond the line of scrimmage - 0, literally 0 passes beyond 20 yards between the hashes. I feel like we are running so many "outs" that the receivers are going to get jumped can cause INTs as well. Feels like we are lacking crossing patterns, tight ends sitting in the middle, RBs leaking out in the middle and deep posts. Maybe there is a plan, but currently the middle of the field is not being used.

Brown completed 2-of-4 passes for 31 yards and a touchdown while Julian Sayin completed 3-of-5 passes for 23 yards in the fourth quarter.

Brown continues to show the inconsistency that keeps him from being "the guy". Sayin's throws were more consistent and better. his issues were not the throws but the experience, as he gets that he will pass Brown as the backup.

Question - have never seen this at this level, but after watching TTUN offense against Texas AND Fresno St, why not put 2 people on Colston Loveland - literally on one each side of him every play like gunners on a punt. I would play man - high safety on the wides, double team Loveland and then 7 guys attack the run. They dont have the O-Line or QB to counter that.

Tegra was trying to get to the LB on that play (his assignment), but didnt quite get there (LB was quick to go toward the run) Seth is blocking with his head up, and sees the LB coming and gets in his way has well and actually engages both players.

Havent had that in o-line blocking the last few years. Player or coaching? either way, let other other guys see that, learn from it and replicate the effort and this line will be very good.

2 Difference between last year and this year -

  1. the use of the feet. Even staying in the pocket he seems more mobile and able to deflect the rush (Just need to increase the percentage of completions under pressure) as well as the running potential
  2. demeanor - did Kyle ever look like he was having fun? That part of leadership will pay dividends later, Howard will have the trust of the team,  and get them to play loose and fast. Kyle seemed to go the opposite direction where everything is one step away from disaster.
