I watched a few minutes of a baseball game recently in which the Boston Red Sox appeared to be wearing garish yellow and blue uniforms. Did I really see that?
Such a great hire. I’ll keep beating the drum that what makes Diebler different is that he became a coach because he realized that was the way he could help people the most. You see it in action with what Stewart’s dad said.
I think that Diebler is the gamble that this program is best to roll with! I’ve been all in and loving it! When does the season tip off? Let’s get this going. Go Buckeyes!!
If we are not able to pick up a sharp shooter, with a front court like this I believe that we will be looking good. Bradshaw and Stewart should open up a lot of good looks for Bruce and Meechie and company. I am confident our guards will rebound nicely 3pt % wise. Let’s Go Buckeyes!!
Good points PiPo. Not to mention the development of Chatman. He just didn’t get much of a chance to find his comfort level with limited playing time. That’s gonna change next year!
Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.
Meechie and Thornton will do some shooting but it seems to me this roster would really fill out if we had a true 3-point specialist along with what we currently have.
All due respect to Key and Okpara, and they'll still need to prove themselves, but I do believe we have an upgrade in the frontcourt with Bradshaw and Stewart! And in a more seasoned Royal and we're looking at this being one of the teams strengths next year.
Okpara was actually developing pretty nicely, by his Senior year he could have been a First-Second Team AC guy imo. However, Bradshaw and Stewart have much higher floors no doubt. Both were Top 10 recruits for a reason, they have legitimate NBA talent. That is what this team needed.
This is certainly a very welcome addition, but it would have been better if Okpara was still a part of the team while adding these pieces. Depth, depth, depth. Gotta have it.
The average height at PF in college is 6'7 to 6'8, but when we've played teams like Wisconsin who always seemed to have towering frontcourts - this is such a refreshing change.
Gonna be awesome to have super athletic 6'9 Stewart paired with 7'1 Bradshaw! I can't remember a PF this big for us in a long time.
Well, we could name a bunch of guys like that who were out of position. But as you said, they had to play center for us. Jared was special though, and could get away at the 5 on most nights. He had trouble with players with a certain length/height though.
Kyle Young and Kaleb Wesson had good height for a PF, but not as great as our Centers. I remember when Trever Thompson (6'11) decided to go pro early. That was a huge bummer b/c he had good size at the 5, and had massively improved from year to year. Had he stayed, I can't remember the year, but it was either Kyle or Kaleb that coulda played at the 4 instead - which would have been an awesome pairing with Trevor at the 5.
What he may lack in sheer height, he compensates for with power, physicality, and leaping ability. He’s a high-volume rebounder and ... [Use link for the rest]

"it's not magic, it's fundamentals" that lead to Ohio State's success. - Ryan Day
Besides being 2 inches shorter, Slam Thompson was nowhere near as physical as Sean Stewart is. And playing 32.5 mpg as a senior, Thompson averaged 3.9 rpg. Stewart averaged nearly that many rebounds playing 8mpg as a true frosh this season. Stewart can play the 4 and the 5 whereas you'd almost rather have played Thompson at the 2 than the 4.
Yeah, they're both athletic forwards who aren't known as perimeter shot-makers, but outside of that they are pretty different players.
This is the truth. This addition gives transition and post up options that have been missing for over 6 years. Let guards run because the bigs can run too.
Nice pickup. Looks athletic and more natural around the rim than Okpara (although I thought Okpara showed lots of improvement and was looking forward to seeing him progress as a Buckeye). Not sure what the scholly/roster situation is, but I think we're set if we can lockdown a consistent spot up shooter that can also D up.
Okpara got upset that Diebler brought in a more talented center than him in Bradshaw and then proceeded to get a big NIL deal from Tennessee and left. I also really enjoyed watching him at the end of the season but I am glad Diebler is looking for upgrades regardless if our current players like it or not.
It's a good pick up. Stewart will be good putting up offensive putbacks on one side of the rim with Bradshaw on the other side. You can have Royal at the 3 with his mid range game. You can play small or large with Stewart in the lineup. At least Diebler is getting more height around the rim. These are good picks with Parrish, Bradshaw and Stewart.
We’ll coach diebler you have assembled a team more than capable of winning the big ten. CBS has us up to 15 as does rothstein makes me wonder if we jump purdue for big ten favorites now after getting Stewart. Again just my opinion but on paper I like us and indiana the best, but I do think we have a higher ceiling
Love this pickup, and another big man was crucial since the other forwards seeing playin time are on the smaller side, (Royal and Mahaffey). Now get a good shooting wing and we are set.
Will be interesting to see if getting Stewart changes anything with our recent portal activity with other fronctourt players like Elijah Saunders or Langdon Hatton or if the frontcourt remains the focus. This 11w article posits that's where the focus will stay, which I could see, but I also wouldn't be surprised if we pivot to trying to add a sharpshooting wing of some sort, even if just as a bench option.
I don’t see enough shooting with this roster - I could be wrong. I do think Royal will improve his range a lot this off season his form is to good not to be able to knock down a three at the college level. Maybe Diebler thinks Mobley can contribute next year.....And adding a 6’5” to 6’6” Athletic wing small/forward would still be adding a front court player....
@Nomatta, I personally think a lot of this hinges on where the staff Taison can be this year. If he lives up to his top 30 ranking out of high school, then we've got a monster in waiting to pair with Thorton. Losing Roddy, I have concerns about losing some of that size, and Taison gives us that right back. Bruce/Meechie feels like a really small backcourt.
What do you feel we lose/gain with Meechie at the 2? I'm not quite sure his SEC production will carry over and that he is a plus over Roddy. All the transfer portal rankings have Roddy significantly rated higher than Meechie.
Ideally, Taison has his breakout year and Meechie is a strong backup in the backcourt. As you said, a sharpshooting wing should be a priority.
Also, how do you feel about Devin Royal? People on this board seem to be enamored by him, but part of me feels he caught some people off guard this year and was more opportunistic than anything. He seems to lack a motor and has a really slow shot. Will be interesting to see how he handles more attention from the scouting reports this year.
Ok, I will admit I was really skeptical of Diebler being named head coach, when he has had no experience at that high level. But, what he has just accomplished, bringing in two 5* recruits from two of the biggest BlueBlood's in CBB history is damn, damn impressive. You have to go all out and root your hardest for this young coach on this big stage.
I surely will be.
I honestly have no idea where to set my expectations for next year. Are they an NCAA tournament team? Will they compete for the conference championship?
You can see the outlines of a competitive team now. Still need some consistent scoring from the wing, and of course, both Bradshaw and Stewart to live up to their original billings.
Way to go Coach Diebler! Thought you were the best coach for us and you’re proving it.
6’ 9” and 230 lbs with outstanding leaping ability is not at all average! With Bradshaw we now have an intimidating pairing down low with size, aggression and athleticism.
Pair that with an elite guard group and we’re in excellent shape for next season.
Now just one more addition - an athletic wing who is a strong shooter beyond the arc.
BOOM! The Buckeyes will certainly have a different look going forward with a bigger, more athletic roster. I'm excited about Sean Stewart's addition. Adding a skilled perimeter shooter would put be perfect. Go Bucks!
The transfer portal rankings, are based on production I would assume. Stewart has all the tools, and was a very highly rated high school player. He just did not get a whole lot of playing time last year, due to who he was playing behind, Thus the #67 ranking, which is not very accurate.
Each ranking service (On3, 247, CBS, The Athletic, etc.) has its unique ranking criteria, and different weights assigned to each component. But production is just one piece.
For example, The Athletic assigns a heavy weight to scarcity in the market. If I remember correctly, that meant Centers had the highest value. You could have a center rated higher than a guard who is the obvious superior player, but the center is rated higher in the context of just the portal.
If only we could have held on to Scotty Middleton (biggest head-scratcher of the departures), this team could have been even more special. But not bad overall.
Good lord, 6'9" with a 36 inch vertical, you cannot be serious??!! That in itself adds two or more inches to his reach relative to the average forward.

Him and Bradshaw look so much better in the S&G then those ugly blue jerseys they previously wore!
Without self-discipline, success is impossible, period.
Blue uniforms of all kinds suck. And if you add any kind of yellow to it, you reach the pinnacle of garbage unis.
I was at a bar once in NJ (fox and hound) Menlo Park and there was a previous event sponsored by corona , so blue and yellow table clothes
lol every Buckeye fan in the place refused to sit at any tables for 3.5 hours for entire duration of the game bc of said hideous table clothes
that’s when the bar owner realized the depth of this rivalry / hatred
I watched a few minutes of a baseball game recently in which the Boston Red Sox appeared to be wearing garish yellow and blue uniforms. Did I really see that?
This is freaking awesome the kid has a ton of ability, good skills on offense and defense, very exciting addition. Go Bucks!!!

Mmmhmm talent seems to go out the backdoor here.
Maybe in the past. This is the present and Ohio State basketball has a leader. The future is bright for the program! Let’s Go Bucks!!
Let's see, Okpara and Key for Stewart and Bradshaw, take that deal today and every day.

Did Jake Diebler attend the Brian Hartline school of recruiting?
The floor could be low for next season...
But this also might be the highest ceiling Buckeye men's basketball team in a very long time.
There is real talent in the backcourt. There is real talent in the frontcourt.
Diebler is gambling on potential... and you know what? I am here for it.
Let's roll.

Much better than whatever the hell Holtmann was doing with the portal...
Swear that Holtmann looked for the kids with the lowest possible ceilings.
Yep, I'll take hope and potential over guaranteed mediocracy every time.
If you have two people that agree on everything, that only means one of them is not thinking at all.
He had a knack for finding shooting guards that couldn't really shoot to play the point. It was uncanny.
Battle was a good find, even though I'm happier with Diebler taking over.
Something about blind squirrels and nuts would apply here.
Holtmann was asleep at the wheel. OSU basketball about to be fun to watch again.
