Dodgers up 7-0 in NLCS Game 3 after Ohtani hits a monster three-run homer in the top of the eighth. Can't see if Mets fans are heading for the exits but I know I would be.

Lanning was caught, penalized in game per rule, and even came clean on intent.

Well then I guess the Rules Committee took action just for the hell of it? Must have been a slow news day.

"I've been playing checkers."

And I have been concerned for quite some time about the decline of ethics in this society. Evidently it's worse than I thought.

How was Coach Day supposed to prevent the other team from putting 12 guys out there? What should he have done?

Tennessee QB took a lot of flak after a similar play the week before, but it does appear Will had a better chance. At least he would not have run out of bounds, one suspects.

Comment 16 Oct 2024

Not sure I want to see our QB's knee touch the ground if he is sliding, regardless of the outcome of the game. That would imply a Joe Theisman-ish injury.

Oakland Raiders fans used to say that when the zebras huddled after the "Immaculate Reception", it was not to confirm whether Franco Harris caught the ball before it hit the ground. It was to discuss how they were going to get out of Pittsburgh if they ruled that he hadn't.

Evidently the story about the rule change was posted here around the time I posted. Oh well. Maybe when the Ducks play TCUN they should call it the Asterisk Bowl.

Comment 16 Oct 2024

It seems the talk of a mid-season rule change is dissipating. I never fell for it. That would put a giant asterisk on the game and therefore any conference or national title the Ducks might "win".

Comment 16 Oct 2024

Lanning is a gambler and it just because he does something doesn't mean it was smart. I think he got lucky on this play and on the "on-side" kickoff.

Comment 16 Oct 2024

Chiefs aren't all that dominant but they seem built to win close ones with Mahomes, Kelce, Butker and Chris Jones. Not saying Buckeyes should have guys that good but it's interesting to watch them. Very difficult to outlast in Q4.

I've heard a lot of good things about Kayden McDonald this season. He got 11 snaps against Oregon. I wonder how he did.

He might be the closest thing we have to that Subzero freezer that Judkins ran into before somehow losing the ball.

Holding onto that final timeout is a black mark

Lincoln Riley said "Hold my beer" about three hours earlier. His Trojans ended up with the ball but not in FG range and only 14 seconds left on the clock, and three timeouts still in their pocket. That must be some sort of a record? Next play they threw an INT, then lost in OT after they missed a FG.

Ok then we’ll see what happens. I’d like to see more diversity and creativity on offense but I won’t be holding my breath.

Comment 13 Oct 2024

That wasn’t the question. If Devin Brown is the backup and is as bad as you say then I’d suggest this team’s chances of winning a title are slim and none. So who are you sending out there if Howard is hurt? I don’t know how good Brown is but he seems to be the backup as far as Ryan Day is concerned.

Far more strong opinions than real answers to problems around here. Same as it ever was.

I think the problem with Burke and others is that they just weren't sharp, largely because the other five teams on the schedule thus far were lousy competition and none of them had a WR that anyone has ever even heard of. Except maybe Foster at MSU but really there was no one anywhere near as good as the Oregon receivers.

Also, I remember thinking "this is too good" after the Buckeyes got off to a great start, uncharacteristically, because maybe then you have guys thinking "we got this" way too soon. Rat poison.

Then there was a lot of confusion back there in the secondary. The whole thing was a clown show. I recall a play in which Tez Johnson was all by himself at the goal line after motioning across and the Bucks were just lucky Gabriel lost track of him.

I think Burke will prove his worth during the remainder of the season. But if he doesn't that's real trouble.

Comment 13 Oct 2024

I don't know how the Ducks could have known that the zebras would not first blow the whistle and stop play before the snap. Not defending anyone here, because in any case it does seem that the mistake cost the Buckeyes precious seconds that may well have been enough to win the game.
