The scuttlebutt is that he was tired of the present college landscape as you suggested, and by retiring so soon before the season forces Viginia to replace him with his hand-picked assistant coach to replace him. Seems logical to me.

These players are all from smaller schools. They may very well be good players, but this is apples to oranges comparing them to those that are going up against top- notch competition. Kalil Macks are extremely rare.
BULL1215, IF Day finally realizes that this DL's ongoing approach in creating some pressure against quality competition, I would consider that a wake-up call. But what do I know, I'm just an idiot, not a cheerleader.
It's pretty obvious that they're pretty convinced that Fitzpatrick is not ready yet, which is understandable. I sure hope that Zen is because I would hate to see 3 players/positions shuffled around at this point of the season.
We're good. I think everyone at this point is just totally unsure of what we really have with this D. Just gonna have to sit back and see how it plays out, I guess. I'm just hoping for the best!
I repeat: " 1st 3 games". Iowa was not one of those.
I don't think the 1st 3 games of the season should even be considered in the evaluation. The level of competition was pathetic.
Shtinky1, I think the major problem is that LJ does not consider himself to be a subordinate. Day should have made that clear from day1 and if LJ couldn't handle that, adios. It almost appears that Day is intimidated by LJ's previous history and reputation. LJ has become his albatross who may be his undoing. My respect for LJ has taken a hit.
Thanks for your feedback, Rill Di**.
My hope is that he just retires gracefully this offseason. I think his time has passed, but I would hate to see his legacy tarnished by an acrimonious departure ala Tony Alford.
...and having to set the edge is what most fans here use to defend his lack of getting pressure on the QB. Add it up and you have a solid DE, but hardly elite. Far from dominate. Time for us to realize that.
Junkins cleanly got stripped. Oregon got ripped off on their interception to Kamarcek. That was huge. As far as the 8 penalties on the Buckeyes, I guess they should have just ignored those OL procedure penalties, right?
Bullshit, the Bucks were very fortunate with many of the calls. The OPI was legit, it doesn't matter when the ball was in the air. I'm sick and tired of everyone always blaming the refs. The Buckeyes lost and they deserved to by the way they played! Just own it.
Out coached, out played physically, and overrated. Totally out played. This is not the team we thought we had, boys and girls!

"I'm getting a national championship contender"; not I'd BE getting a national contender.....telling? Let's hope.
You SHOULD be insulted by that comment, Andy. Believe me, you and the rest of the staff are very much appreciated by everyone who tunes in here. Thanks!
That's why these writers should not even bother with a prediction. If he predicts a Duck's win, he's just considered another homer by our fanbase or a loss for Oregon and he's a traitor to his own fanbase. Why deal with that?
One aspect that I haven't seen mentioned is for the DL to get their hands up when they don't get quick penetration. Those deflections often lead to pick-sixes and that can change momentum in a heartbeat.
I get that, but how much press coverage have we seen by our corners thus far? Not often enough to call that aspect mixing it up. I'm not necessarily advocating for it... just curious.
More like a "tip of the cap" for Frye. The hats come off if there is continued improvement. That is still tbd, imo.
Day keeps mentioning how Gabriel gets the ball out quick. Entering this season I thought that Knowles would play more press coverage because of the talent he has in the secondary. (wrong again). It will be interesting to me to see if some of that is sprinkled in this week to upset the Duck's offensive flow.
This pitiful clown is living in his own little fantasy world. I should probably actually feel sorry for him.... but not a chance!
I think "locker room mutiny" is on the table.
