I don't think so! I think they expect him to contribute as a 5th yr guy he can help close out games, hit 3's in in certain match ups kid payed 2 yrs at Florida and he has improved every year.
Yeah...I don't see that at all. See him as a player that plays in an emergency. Don't think he is part of the rotation at in the backcourt and certainly don't think he is on the floor closing out games for them.
He'll definitely get playing time. Diebler isn't going to run Thornton and Meechie. There's 80 minutes available between the 2 guard positions and Parrish, while listed as a guard, is a wing player. Mobley is still likely too lean to handle much more than 10mpg. Glover isn't going to get 15+mpg and you are right, he likely won't be closing out games but he'll see action if only to give Bruce and Meechie and breather.
The unseen factor with our guard depth and Bruce at times is foul prone is the Foul situation. Having a 5th yr guy who can handle the ball and hit FT's is very important.
too often, in the last few seasons, have we been begging for a guy who could come off the bench and dribble the ball up the court against pressure. If he ends up being a 3rd PG and a streaky shooter, he will have a niche role the team has needed in the last few seasons
With only 3 guards on the team he'll get some PT. Likely 2-4 minutes each half to give the starters rest, more obviously if he plays well. Remember we will be running more up tempo next year than recent years and you can't do that with only 3 guards.
Will have to see but at Florida his first year they were guard heavy, didn't have a center and only two true forwards had more minutes than him. Second year Florida went bigger having a center and two forwards getting more of his minutes. Both years Florida was a decent above .500 team so it's not like he was on a crap team.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
but we do have an available scollie ... it was not used on him... now officially the 1st kid to come here and get his tuition covered by NIL money so we did not use the scollie on him..
Options had to be pretty slim to get somebody in to make up for Chatman's injury at this stage in the cycle, while also not offering a scholarship. I know he's getting it covered by NIL, but still.
Those expecting an impact guard here are beyond unrealistic.
I agree, but we already have 2 shoot-first small guards in Thornton and Meechie. Couldn't Diebler have found a guard who was more like 6-3 or 6-4? I just shudder to think what's going to happen to this team against big guards.
And this is an example of why the NCAA is increasing scholarships but limiting the total number of players as schools would just load up on NIL paid players.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
I think they expect him to play minutes: We are thin at Guard here are some hi-lites I poated in the BBall post.
Ques Glover: 3p% the last year he played 37% - FT% 85% - Pts per Game at Samford 14.7 - Assists 3.5 - Played in 51 games at Florida as a Freshmen and Soph.
His first year at Florida averaged 4.4pts - his best year at Samford he averaged almost 20 pts per game -
Could be a very good pickup if he can play 10-15 min per game. I think they expect him to play some minutes.
This late in the game, it was going to be hard to find any player capable of giving quality minutes. But here’s Glover, an experienced player who has the ability to add some play making ability. Great pickup.
NIL is paying his way? Something tells me that's not the way NIL is supposed to work. Seems more like we and, everyone else, are simply buying/paying athletes long before they have any real NIL value. But hey, good for those while it lasts but I don't see it.
Michigan. lol.
PSA: grayed out comments get read the most. Thanks!
Exactly. There are probably at best a handful of players nationwide getting significant "NIL" dollars whose real value of their name, image and likeness approaches what they're being paid. They are being paid NOT for their "NIL" but rather to play their sport. $600 to use their NIL for a game is closer to the true value.
And this is why the NCAA is going to restrict the total number of players while increasing the number of scholarships. They don't want to go back to the 1960s.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!

"This is a tough team right here. We're proud to be from Ohio. It's always been Ohio against the world, and it will continue to be Ohio against the world."
I do know that K-State fans really wanted him on the court last year, especially after they lost Nae'Qwon Tomlin for the season. His nagging injuries took a piece out of the offense that Coach Tang expected to use heavily.
What’s not to like folks? There is no reasonable argument for not bringing this guy into the mix for free. He adds insurance and it’s not costing the team a darn thing. The way I see it, this is a stroke of genius by Diebler and there has to be some value added as a long season churns on. I was a little conflicted because as much as I knew we needed to replace Chatman, the team also remains too thin in the frontcourt as well. Now they can just concentrate on filling that gap. It’s unreasonable to expect them to bring in a coveted four star this late in the cycle, but these coaches are continuing to impress us with their skills, awareness and resourcefulness. Diebler has proven in quick order that he is lightyears better than the “The Clapper.”
The only ones who aren't boomworthy are the armchair fans who think a commit is not boomworthy. What a pathetic stance to pick and choose which Buckeye commitments are worthy of celebration. Go be a Kentucky fan if only blue chips are worthy to you. In the meantime, enjoy your downbooms.
He is a nice depth player. Anyone who thinks he will only be a practice player hasn’t looked at our backcourt depth recently. OSU will need this guy to play about 10 mins/game just to give the starters a rest. He’s a good pick up given the situation
My admittedly positively slanted thoughts on the Glover addition:
1. I project the true guards (Bruce, Meechie, Juni, and Glover) to play a combined 85 ish mins a game. I think projecting approximately 5 mins a game where 3 of those 4 are on the court together, given Jake's uptempo style preference, seems like a modest prediction.
2. I would imagine that Bruce and Meechie snatch up a combined 55-60 of those 85 ish mins. That would leave 25-30 for Juni and Glover, unless he plays Parrish or Mahaffey at SG, but that seems less than ideal.
3. Juni could absolutely crush it. But even if he does, it's hard to imagine more than 20ish mins a game from Mobley at the start of the season in a best case scenario. That still leaves a little bit of meat on the bone for Glover. And that's not even factoring in potential injuries, illnesses, or foul trouble from the top 3 guards.
4. I get the Cedric Russell PTSD. I have it as well. But one big difference is that Mike White (maybe even Dusty May recruited Glover?) thought he was good enough to play in the SEC. And despite being a low rated 3 star recruit, he played 12.4 mins a game as a true Freshmen on a team that was projected for the Big Dance and had two guards that are currently on NBA rosters. So unlike Russell, he has practiced with and played against high level competition on a regular basis.
5. As far as the numbers comparison, the shooting and scoring are pretty similar from Russell at Louisiana and Glover at Samford, though Glover was quite a bit better on his 2pt pct. And I have no idea, but I imagine the Sun Belt and Southern conferences are pretty similar. But the playmaking numbers are pretty stark. Russell averaged over 33 mins a game in each of his last two years at Louisiana, and averaged only 2.1 and 1.2 assists. Glover averaged 4.4 in 31 mins and 2.1 in 24.6 in two seasons at Samford. Not eye popping numbers, but far from the dreadful assist numbers for Russell. Glover also attempted 237 free throws in 48 career games at Samford. Russell only had 173 in 58 games (last two seasons at Louisiana) and that translated to a whopping 9 attempts in limited mins in 30 games at osu. I don't have the scouting report on these two, but based on the numbers, it sure seems like Russell was way more one dimensional (just a shooter) than Glover seems to be on the offensive end.
It’s just so refreshing to see that the team now has some legitimate “bigs” that were so sorely needed in the past several years. While I think the team will be markedly better than in recent years, it is because we have a much, much better coach, I don’t expect that we have arrived at the Final Four level yet. But I also believe Five Star players will take note of the potential of the coach and program this year and we can get there in just a few years. The landscape is totally different these days and we don’t have to see an ill-prepared leader trot his teams onto the court and try to get them and the fans excited because he was clapping. It’s a whole new game with Coach Diebler. I can’t wait now for both football and basketball.

Thankful this did not cost them a scholarship as he seems like a practice player.
I don't think he gets any real PT unless its garbage time but it is good to see them be clever and just add him basically for free.
Stay gold, Ponyboy.

He should play, even if its 5 minutes a game if he can give the starters a rest break and be effective then he should play

Ayyy!
Glover certainly didn't choose OSU to be a practice player. He's gonna play. How much is the question. I'd guess 5-7 minutes a half.
We needed depth and this kid provides it.

Go up to the line and cross it. - J. Harbaugh

I mean, technically yes they have an available scholarship. But, its already allocated elsewhere. Last sentence of the article:

Not going to find many point guards bigger body wise than Bruce Thornton

Interesting that he was willing to sign without a scholly but instead with NIL. That aspect has been talked about as a possibility.

Veteran guard with plenty of experience playing at a major university, not sure what's not to like. He's brought in to add depth, not be the man
