Honestly, that’s not true. Many, many players care if they start. That includes D1 players and NBA players

Sometimes that’s true. But not always. Teams usually start their best five by position group. Occasionally they will play a certain guy off the bench who might be one of the five best. But If it didn’t matter at all, teams would regularly change lineups. They don’t. And while it’s not a guarantee that a starter plays more minutes, it usually works that way. A new wrinkle might be NIL. When NIL collectives pay for players, there will be pressure to start certain guys because that validates the money spent
We don’t know who’s starting. But I expect there will be a stiff competition for minutes, either way
For everyone complaining about the Peacock games, please remember that NBC/Universal joined a $7B media rights deal for the B1G. They did that for specific reasons like bolstering Peacock. No one has to purchase it and I will likely listen to those games streaming on the Ohio State basketball network. Hopefully they have better basketball announcers than they have for football
All great points, as usual. I think the 8th place prediction is as high as media could go given the unknowns on the roster. Stewart and Bradshaw could be great based on their potential or they could be pedestrian based on their freshmen seasons. Parrish could take a step forward with and expanded role like Battle did. Or he could be the same as the last two seasons.
My gut reaction has OSU slightly better than predicted. I think there are some teams picked above them who are overrated. And I like the style Diebler seems to prefer. In fact, this might be the best OSU does in transition than they have since… um… Conley, et al? Should be fun!
Agree. I do not see this happening. Braden Smith will be good, as he has been. But POY? No way
Not sure if he will be FOTY but I think he will make the all-freshman first team. Either way I think he has an impactful freshman season
I don’t care about that guy or what he says. I never watch a pre or post game on that network. The only thing I use that channel or app for is to watch games I want to see. So the fact that he said something about OSU is like a tree falling alone in the forest
Two stiff arms like those, by different RBs, in the same game? Insane
Sorry to tell you that I cannot relate to this sentiment at all, Nomatta. We have a coach that gives me confidence. The roster has more talent top to bottom than it has had in many years. And as for the getting older thing, I will be 57 in November. All that tells me is that I have fewer seasons in front of me than behind me, and I better appreciate each one. So I’m ready to enjoy an exciting hoops season cheering for Coach Diebler and the Buckeyes
So Indiana is 3-0. That’s real. It’s also possible that UCLA is horrible. It will be interesting to see how their season evolves.
Georgia is very good, but I don’t see them surviving that gauntlet. Not enough offense and even the defense showed vulnerability.
Texas has looked very good and they are legit.
Congrats to Seth Towns! I wish his health allowed him to play more at OSU. When he did, he was definitely productive. Either way, he has degrees from three great institutions and gets to coach at Harvard. Happy for him
That’s right, of course. Napier will be toast first. That’s said, could you imagine what would happen if Ryan Day lost two games to middling teams to start the season?
Who gets fired first Mike Norvell or Billy Napier?
Putting Fryar aside, it was the first game Sierveld ever played. Can we see him a couple of games before destroying his career?
The Akron QB had a very bad case of Jack Sawyer
McGuire was also the holder on place kicks
I was lucky enough to get Archie Griffin’s autograph when he was a senior at OSU and I was all of 8 y/o. I was star struck. But he knelt down, talked to me face to face and could not have been kinder. In my book, he certainly deserves this honor. And it’s no surprise that the man who is literally Mr. Buckeye focuses on all the people who helped him and their team accomplishments. Thank you for everything, Archie
Crazy as it sounds, the current environment requires managing your roster a year at a time. So you take West if you like him and he likes you. Then you deal with the following year when you get there
The best definition of a Michigan Man
I’ve said in the Basketball Forum threads that last year no one expected Jamison Battle to be what he became. Last year was his best shooting performance by a lot. Credit to him and the coaches who helped him take that step. That means we have no idea whether someone like Bruce or Meechie, or both, might take a similar step in accuracy and efficiency. It is an obvious question about who will take and make shots on this team. But my guess is our two experienced guards will be the likely suspects. I like the experience of these two guys
It’s very tough to grade this roster now because so many rotational players are unknown quantities. The B+ for guards is probably fair because of the inexperienced depth and the lack of height. As Bsk noted, the wing grade is a touch harsh because it seems to discount defense and rebounding. I would give that group a bump to B-. I would change “forward” to “front court” because we don’t what positions people will play or where those positions will be stationed on the court. That group has the potential to be an A+. It could also be a disappointing C-. So a B seems fair for now. But everything is so premature. It is a flawed roster but there are lots of reasons for hope
Welcome, Ivan!!!
I like the way he moves in space in the video, both on offense and defense. Those instincts can be hard to teach. Look forward to him joining the team
This guy has agreed to play for the team. Yes, he deserves a red banner for making that commitment. He deserves respect and recognition
He is a nice depth player. Anyone who thinks he will only be a practice player hasn’t looked at our backcourt depth recently. OSU will need this guy to play about 10 mins/game just to give the starters a rest. He’s a good pick up given the situation
With all due respect, which OSU Heisman winner do you think received that award due to politics and not performance? If the answer is no one, then why have a problem with every winner from OSU currently living receiving this honor? Archie will always be the first, as it should be, but all of these men have given greatly to the university and the community
