Gameday Skull Session: Get Dumped Then, Michigan State (And Jim Harbaugh)

The Cheaters Up North are going down today, PSU is about to take them out to the woodshed and beat their asses. It's a bad day to be a wolverine.

Not convinced they will not still be cheating. All parties that were cheating still on the field. They still have the information collected. What keeps them from sending the info through the headsets to the OC and DC prior to each play? Hell Stallions might be in the stands with a mic patched into them. Or someone with the cheat sheets in the coaching boxes telling them what to do. That is why the group of HC, DC and OC all should be off the field and in their hotel during the games. Don't trust those cheating f***kers.

HS
Shtinkycat1's picture

In the past, teams weren’t aware just how big the cheating was by TCUN and that they had everything. PSU has had time to adjust their signs. Vegas favors PSU, so there is something there that Vegas sees.

HS
CA_Buck's picture

I'm really interested to see what PSU does to cover their signals. It seems doable on offense, although not costless, to prevent sign reading by running a receiver onto the field with each play and/or using wristbands.

However, I don't know what you do to not signal defensive calls, so that could be an area where Michigan has a huge "completely legal or if not legal then immaterial advantage". Michigan was in one score games with us, Penn State, Purdue, and many other teams last year before going on absolute scoring runs in the second half. Michigan's offense struggled against freaking Purdue (see 63-7 against LSU later that month) before rolling off 14 points in 10 plays to start the second half. Michigan fans would argue that it was their Joe Moore award-winning offensive line (see two 7th round picks and a 5th round pick over the last two years, clearly a talent juggernaut that Ohio State can't hold up against; I mean, we held our own against Notre Dame (see Joe Alt), Georgia (see Broderick Jones), Penn State (see Olu Fashanu), but when we face two 7th round draft picks and a 5th round draft pick, why, that's a level of talent/future insurance salesman that gives a defensive line with 4 projected Day 1/2 draft picks no shot (yes I'm still salty that an offensive line that was manhandled by a mediocre TCU 3-3-5 created this "toughness" narrative by using illegal means to steal our signals). I guess the question is whether, minus Stalions and Harbaugh, Michigan still has the outfit to use their extensive pre-game scouting footage to decrypt opposing defensive signals by the 2nd half.

HS
nm_buck's picture

With multiple signalers, it takes a while for the cheaters to determine the 'hot' signaler. We have enough great WRs and RBs to bring in plays without sacrificing offensive production. It would minimize exposure of our signals. On defense, it might be a little harder since the playcalls depend on the offensive formations. They'll need to figure out a different way... maybe change up some of their calls, change the hot caller, etc. I'm sure they'll figure it out.

Fuck Michigan

After reading and now digesting the B1G’s letter to UM, my biggest takeaway is the the University of Michigan itself was fine with letting their football team continue to reap the benefits of cheating.  Two points stood out to me:

1. UM didn’t even suspend Connor Stalions until 2 days after the NCAA informed them of the illegal scheme, and then only after the NCAA came back and said ‘hey are you gonna do something about that guy?’

2. UM didn’t want the B1G to warn their upcoming opponents of the illegal scheme. On p3 Petitti says it was only after much discussion and insistence on his part.

This means that if the football coaches and staff still have unfairly gained information at their disposal, the University of Michigan will let them use it with impunity. There will be no self monitoring.

This.

I guess I was naive. I guess I thought too highly of my fellow humans. No more.

I still find it stunning that a major university, previously held in high regard academically, at least, would be so blatantly callus toward honesty and integrity and sportsmanship. From the top down?!

I still have a hard time coming to terms with this, and I’m not being hyperbolic or grandstanding. That is my sincere reaction:  WTF Ono?!  Seriously?  No  seriously?!

How can ANYONE, from janitor to tenured professor, keep working at an institution that doesn’t care about basic fairness and morality?!

One thing that makes me laugh is that the information came from inside the michigan program... not Ryan Day, Ryan Day's brother the PI or Rutgers, Purdue or anyone else. It came from MICHIGAN. It said "at least 3 University officials attending NCAA interviews." The NCAA was interviewing michigan staffers. This was around the time all the michigan excuse-makers were boasting they couldn't be interviewing the coaches because they were in East Lansing gearing up for the game.

It came from multiple people inside the michigan program after all.

But but but Ryan Day.

HS
Buckabroad's picture

Hi Frimmel! I wanted to UV you and respond briefly. I fully agree it cannot excluded by any means that Jimmy suffers from a nacrissist personality disorder. Especially malignant narcissists tend to compensate feelings of inadequacy with an overblown sense of self-importance and literally are not able to understand the concept that right and wrong might apply to them. They see the world as consisting of themselves and everyone else, who are but objects to be used to substantiate their self-importance, subsequently to be discarded when they no longer satisfy this purpose. Immorality and even illicit behavior cannot apply to them because they want to see themselves as above these concepts. Nothing I have seen concerning Jimmy over the past 20 years would refute the aformentioned.

The story about 131 WWII vets dying every day hit a nerve, especially how it opens: my old man was with the Marines on Iwo Jima. He died at 53; if he was still alive, he’d turn 100 later this month. Like many veterans of that war, he never talked about it but in hindsight, it’s clear he suffered from PTSD and not talking about it was probably a mechanism many vets used to try to forget it. It’s great to see their stories are being recorded; they deserve to be told and remembered.

Thank you to all who have served to defend our country and protect our freedoms.

I read excerpts from UMs letter to the B1G - hard to read because it had no facts and just threatened.  I was thoroughly impressed with the B1G's letter to UM.  It sounds as though UM has pissed off the B1G and NCAA.  I am very interested in how the refereeing will be in PSU and TCUN.  TCUN cannot be allowed to reap the rewards of their cheating; they need to reap the consequences of their actions.

Did you see the TTUN/Hairball attorney stole whole unedited excerpts of a fan rant on MGoBlow for his 10-page letter to the B1G?

The author reported it in a subsequent post, but said it’s okay if it helps the cause.

First of all, shout-out to my late father, SSG Snook, The Ohio State University class of '41, who served with distinction in WWII with the 7th Armored Division. If you want to read up on a unit that saw some stuff, read their history. I have sports heroes, but none of them hold a candle to my father. Miss you pops.
Is OSU beatable? In the most technical sense of the word, sure. But at some point improbable teeters on the brink of impossible, and Ohio State is the fat kid that's about to secretly slip off the teeter toter and let the skinny kid dressed in green and white slam his ass on the harsh concrete of reality. Bucks by a metric ton.
Also, screw those cheaters up north. The only thing I hate more than a sanctimonious asshole who has dipped themselves in a color closer to urine than corn is a cheater who pretends to earn their titles through merit instead of treachery. Go Penn State!
Rant over.

My father served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. The Greatest Generation. So grateful and respectful for all US vets.

BTW, if you love WWII history as I do, there's a really good Steven Spielberg movie coming out in January called "Masters of the Air," on Apple TV, about US bomber pilots flying over Nazi Germany.  The trailer looks really good!

I'm squeamishly optimistic.

Masters of the Air is part of Spielberg’s and Tom Hanks collaboration that produced Band of Brothers and The Pacific. I’m assuming it will be a more graphic and violent version of The Memphis Belle.

The part of me that grew up during the 10-year War, suffered thru the Cooper years, and then got to see Tressel & Meyer dominate That Team is sad that this great rivalry has been so badly damaged by the actions an overzealous, fanatical super-fan and a desperate, narcissistic coach.

Michigan is no longer a great and worthy rival that I can take great joy in watching our team defeat on the field. They’re a sad, pathetic clown show.

I won’t upvote this, because it doesn’t feel good to cheer one’s demise as a principle, but I believe you may be correct.

Perhaps he gets to be on the sidelines for a bowl game, but I think the hammer which has been accumulating will drop before next year and the school will see he’s not worth the bother and the damaged reputation.

HS
bull1214's picture

It’ll take awhile to rebuild their reputation but the first step they need to take is severing all ties with the entire coaching staff. A clean slate is the only path for them. But will they do that?

HS

Expecting James Franklin to deliver the skunks head on a platter is something like a movie where an incompetent bumbling fool is required to do something important and fails. Penn State can and will beat them, but James Franklin has to smother those game day decisions he makes that end up blowing up in his face. no trick plays or gimmicks. Just go straight at them for 4 quarters. even I am surprised at the way Michigan is handling the situation. They are completely defiant and are now the victims and in a national circle jerk led by Tom Brady and that douchebag from barstool making shirts that say “bet” on them.  I do truly believe that in the end this will be what if anything delivers the death penalty to their program. With one voice they are all saying that they’re just going to leave the conference and becoming independent. It sounds a lot like when celebrities say they are leaving the country if so and so is elected or something.  The Canadians don’t want you either. They bitch about due process, but this is absolutely not the judicial system, the NCAA took the extraordinary move to reach out to all the members of the conference as has been pointed out previously. How can it be possible that they believe that the entire conference agreed with one voice that Jim Harbaugh, and those cheaters up north did wrong, and yet they are somehow claiming irreparable damage? We were the victims of their crimes along with anybody else they played over the past several years. We can never get those losses back, and all the heartache From the ill gotten scheme, we are all irreparably damaged and should have standing to sue them for irreparable damage, pain and suffering, libel and deformation. We have the receipts! Go Penn State!

I'm actually surprised just how far Michigan is going to fight all of this.  It shows a remarkable lack of professionalism and respect.

If Ryan Day's staff was found to be cheating, and spending football budget to do so, he'd be fired on the spot, I have no doubt.  Tressel stepped down to avoid being fired for lying to the NCAA about playing players he knew sold their personal trophies, and therefore to gain an advantage on the field.  I dont remember Ohio State fighting the penalties or slamming the NCAA or the Big Ten during that fiasco.

And now all their dipshit players are doubling down, too?  You fuckers cheated against Ohio State!  If there is an afterlife, you better be ready to meet Bo and Woody as the first faces you see.

What has become clear is the head job Ohio State did to Michigan and their supporters over the past 20+ years. They truly believe they are a superior program and it’s their divine right to win. After going through multiple head coaches, it became clear that they weren’t going to beat Ohio State playing by the rules. Also, Harbaugh was on the brink of being fired and no one in the NFL wanted him. This set the perfect conditions to open the door for acceptance to cheating. Michigan sees what is coming their way from the NCAA and is all in on protecting the season in hopes to win a national championship. Even if it destroys the program for years to come. Vacating wins in the future doesn’t matter to them. They will have the “memories” of seeing it play out on the field. It’s a sad story because outside of dominating bad teams, there is no indication that Michigan will complete with the elite teams. Look how difficult it has been for Ohio State, even with some great teams.
