Gabriel also already has a win over a top-three team to his credit, leading Oklahoma to a rivalry game win over Texas last season in the Longhorns’ only regular-season loss of 2023.
Did Howard’s lead team beat #3 TCU in the Big 12 championship game in 2022?
Probably so. Imagine that a school that has the full breadth of Nike's money, power and influence rostering players that are as good, or even better than their counterparts. The horror.
I feel it's also important to compare back ups on the defensive line since they will play an important role in determining the outcome. I know we have depth there but I don't know how Oregon is in that area.
QB is very close, OT is kind of a question mark in terms of advantage ("statistically, Ohio State’s tackles have outperformed Oregon’s so far this season), TE is a clear advantage for Oregon but unlikely to be a game changer, LB is an advantage but at least Styles seems to be trending in the right direction.
Overall, OSU has the advantage in the trenches and that's where games like these are typically won. Fingers crossed that JT has a 2022 PSU-esque performance against a lefty QB. If the OSU OL can perform at a high level and the Bucks can move the ball well on the ground, they will likely win. Everything goes better when you can run the ball.

Ok, that's a fair point and there have been games (i.e. against TTUN) where the TE's have made a big impact. Maybe I'm just too optimistic but if that's their most obvious advantage then I'm feeling really good. I'd rather have the advantage in the trenches where we win in 3 out of 4 categories.
Hopefully Simon and Styles have great games. I also think Downs can make a massive impact in a game like this.
"In weightlifting, I don't think sudden, uncontrolled urination should automatically disqualify you."

All of this TE discussion totally discounts how OSU uses TE. We don't need them to be pass catchers. We have realllly great pass catchers. We use our TE as inline blockers, lead blockers, kickout blockers, down field blockers. Unless we are evaluating the TE in that sense, this is a very underrated position in the comments and the article.
Our TE are doing a really nice job in the blocking game this season. If you watch Kyle's videos he shows the blocking prowess of the TE early and often. It shows up on Saturday too. Look who the WR and RB are running by downfield as they make big plays....
Boy, I got vision and the rest of the world wears bifocals! - Butch Cassidy
I don't think it's discounting our TEs more than it's highlighting how impactful a great receiving TE can be.
Our TEs can be receiving threats too, but I don't think we'd hesitate to trade for Oregon's TE if given the option. And that's why they have the advantage.
To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.
i woudn't care if he's healthy - ashton jeanty didn't have trouble running for almost 200 yards vs oregon this season. and henderson/judkins are as good (if not better). osu will be able to run the ball and control the ball and control the game.
It’s on ly LB and TE since the tie breaker went to Gabriel on the top 5 win and in the combined lineup OT split and G split tir breaker on the line goes to the C
Still gotta play the game. I feel better than I did at the start of the season, but won’t be able to breathe until the game is over. If we’re winning, we need to annihilate them. We need to show future prospects that ever changing uniforms and similar cash don’t make up for better coaching. If we lose, well fuck, let’s just not lose.
Comparing one team's offensive personnel to the others' and the defensive personnel to the others is kinda silly. Yes we know both teams have good players but the O's don't play each other and the D's don't play each other. It's really the respective offensive to defensive match-ups that will tell the tale of the tape.

Boise State's O-line lined up and physically kicked Oregon's ass up one side of the street and down the other. Boise likely has only a few starters that would be in our 2-deep on the O-line. Oregon could get mauled up front again. And that Bronco defense isn't walking out of that tunnel Sat night to face Oregon's offense and help them offset their D getting run over. I expect a dogfight, but I also expect us to mash up front.
I don’t know about kicked their asses. It was moreso just noise state had the best player in the country at RB making amazing plays against them. Oregon certainly didn’t look great but Jeanty was just amazing and making ridiculous plays
I will echo Doug Lesmerises' comments here: Anyone who has convinced themselves that Oregon is a fraud that the Buckeyes will easily brush aside (which seems to be about 70% of posters here) is going to be in for a very rude awakening tomorrow night. The Ducks are legit, people.
I'm not sure where you're getting the 70% from. I see Ytown's score prediction and some expressions of optimism, but I think very, very few fans think Oregon is a fraudulent program that we will walk all over. There's a reason they're ranked in the top 10 and we play them on the road. A blowout for either team is highly unlikely and I think most fans realize that.
"In weightlifting, I don't think sudden, uncontrolled urination should automatically disqualify you."

I do not think that Oregon is a fraud. I think that defense is absolutely legit and there are several players on there that I wish were suiting up for the Buckeyes. But……..
But this offense put up 23 points against Boise St and had several turnovers. I know that their skill position players are true game breakers. But I think that offensive line is going to get completely annihilated, as is their offensive game plan. I have a ton of respect for Dillon Gabriel, and I think that he is a real difference maker, but I don’t think that he gets a chance to shine tomorrow with the guys he has charged with keeping our guys from crushing his soul. I do not think that this will be close. Knock on wood.
I expect Gabriel to play his best... if he makes a mistake the Bullets need to take advantage. If they get pressure, they can get stops & turnovers.
Howard has looked great in the red zone running the ball. So-so otherwise. Really looked like he should have gone hard right behind McLaughlin on 4th down last week. Other times he looked less athletic than I expected. Slipping on the turf attempting a moderately easy cut-back. Another time deciding to take on a much smaller DB rather than avoid contact and dive past for extra yards, the DB kinda put a hit on him.
I do expect some wrinkles, whether it be a TE over the middle or Tate getting a deep ball when he gets one on one coverage. The passing game to the RB's has looked awkward but they both are more than capable.
Still scratching my head over that play call. Judkins should have been lined up beside Howard in the backfield so that Iowa had to account for two guys who could get the ball.
I call BS. For some reason you want to add in past success or expected success at some spots.
1. QB- I wouldn’t trade WH for DG if you threw in free donuts for life. Right now, THIS YEAR one is playing better than the other.
2. OT- Oregon was “expected” to have the better tackle pair according to most but that’s not how it’s playing out on the field. At worst, it’s a push but I’d still take the OSU pair hands down.
3. TE- I’ll give you that since we don’t have a single guy playing like stover but as a group, I think they’re doing the job that’s asked of them pretty well.
Meh, one writer's opinion/analysis (no offense Dan) and a fair point is made, whether I agree with it or not. No matter how you slice it, I believe Ohio State is the better team and should prevail on Saturday! I posted the comment below in another thread earlier today.
The Ducks will be a challenge and have some great playmakers. Ohio State is slightly better in all phases (and across all position groups) and eventually earns the victory in Eugene, 34-24.
"College football cannot be explained by science or religion, which is why it remains perfect." ~ Ramzy Nasrallah
Good analysis. I prefer though to look it how position groups line up against each other. Obviously tough to do this at RB and QB, but putting our interior offensive line against their interior defense, or our receivers against their secondary is what is going to matter more in the outcome of the game.
I tend to think both defensive lines have an advantage over the offensive lines, with our advantage being a little bigger and I think this is the key matchup for the game. If either team can establish the run and/or protect the QB better, that team is likely to win.
This is a road game against a very good team. Any expectation that we are going to blow them out on their home field is incredibly optimitic and the reason that our fans are so hard on our own players.(unrealistic expectations) I do think we will be able to run the ball on them and that will be the difference in the game. We win 27-21. Go Bucks!
Bottom line. The only team with a pulse in the running game, ran for over 200 yards. We have a much better oline, and 2 great backs. We can run over this team. That will be the difference. Not needing to mention our defense is way better than Boise States.
Right on. That's pretty much exactly what I told my friend from Oregon yesterday... Boise has a really good RB but OSU has a really good everything including 2 hungry top shelf RB's and outstanding wideouts. Oregon MAY be a able to keep it tight for a quarter or two but at some point the dam will break and the Bucks will roll.

Kid plays bigger than his size too. I look forward to seeing him lay some wood in some big matchups. In my mind's eye I can see him drilling a big TE and knocking the ball out.

Not sure why you think this, as all a TE needs to do is have 2-4 catches for 6-10 yards over the middle and that changes the game completely.

I would have graded the DE matchup as a tossup.
There is a difference in how each team uses its DEs.
Ohio State uses the DEs to contain the QB and set the edge while Oregon uses the DEs to attack the QB and go for sacks.
However, if the top Oregon DE is hurt and isn't at 100%, I would also pick the Ohio State duo (also, Ohio State has more depth).
i woudn't care if he's healthy - ashton jeanty didn't have trouble running for almost 200 yards vs oregon this season. and henderson/judkins are as good (if not better). osu will be able to run the ball and control the ball and control the game.

Didn't you read the Oregon writer's spin though? If you discount 1/6th of his carries they totally contained him!
Just once in my life I want to be as amped as Treveyon Henderson was when he detonated that Akron linebacker.
It’s on ly LB and TE since the tie breaker went to Gabriel on the top 5 win and in the combined lineup OT split and G split tir breaker on the line goes to the C

Go Buckeyes!
Kickers are like lawyers. You don’t want to think about them until you need one.
Fuck those cheating fucks.
Would love to see our offensive positions versus their counterparts on the defense...and the other way around.
I'd say that's essentially what the Ohio State vs Oregon Preview article is.
vacuuming sucks
Ryan Day's last."Big Win" ? Time to add some top shelf teams to enhance our resume. I have much confidence in our team Let's meet the challenge and win big.
Special Teams Oregon has a clear advantage in Punt Returns and KO returns
They rank 2nd nationally in KO returns with a TD while OSU in 3rd worst nationally.
In PR Oregon averages nearly 4 more yards per return than Ohio St.
Oregon also has a clear edge in Net Punting 41.43 vs 38.53
But Oregon's kicker has been a bit of a liability missing 2 XPs this year.
There seem to be some questions regarding Burch's status: https://atozsports.com/college-football/ohio-state-buckeyes-news/jordan-burch-injury-update-against-ohio-state/
