Ah that makes sense… oh wait it doesn’t. Let play Jason Moore 25 snaps. Someone we saw struggle against Marshall & Sparty. Let’s play Hero Kanu. A guy we saw struggle against Marshall & Sparty. Let’s play Tywone Malone 25 snaps. A guy who did okay against Marshall and struggled against Sparty. That surely will help the struggling defense. To play the worse players
Truest statement is that was every bit a matchup game from the statistics for each offense all the way to the final score. Oregon had the crowd and made the bigger plays, consistently. If either Smith doesn't knock the cb down or Howard gets down, you have a chance at the game-winner. Even with the confidence of knowing the can beat OSU, a rematch in Indy with no homefield ad, the Buckeyes with the revenge factor, you would think they will get it done.
Oregon has really good receivers and Gabriel's deep throws were on the money, but man that was a rough game for Burke. Would love to see Mathews get 10-15 snaps with the first team to see what he can do.
The DTs definitely stand out. If we are going to get road grader type DTs, you can’t have them playing insane snap counts and have the stamina for a strong pass rush. They have to rotate more.
They missed almost 20 snaps...What kind of rotation do you want exactly? After Marshall and Michigan State literally all the talk was how KMac was the only one that was even close to Ty & Tyleik's level. Now suddenly we want Jason Moore, Hero Kanu, Tywone Malone to play against Oregon when we all thought they weren't that good against much weaker teams. Just stupid
Effectively zero rotation for the entire D-line, and zero snaps for Mathews at all is just TERRIBLE snap management. Especially with how the D was getting crushed.
Why the coaches freeze up and refuse to sub out in huge games is so frustrating. What's the point of developing backups if you never, ever play them? A backup who is at 100% is going to be far more effective than an exhausted starter playing at 80% because he's played 50 snaps in a difficult game.
To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.
What happened to that big bad Defense you were telling me about a few weeks ago Millhouse? Top five statistically in every category and all that jazz... Changed your tune now. Saying all the things I said a month ago when you were telling me I was crazy. LOL
Is validation from a message board on a fan site something you need to the point you keep receipts in order to throw things back at other members? You poor thing.
I'm very willing to change my opinion on things as new evidence and data come in. That's called critical thinking. Our defense got torched and acknowledging that is necessary.
To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.
Curry and Jackson added energy when they were in there - give them 5 more snaps each and then everyone’s energy (and productivity) increases. JTT gambled on his read and look at the cost.
Zero rotation on the dline when we weren’t dominating the trenches was my main problem. Maybe with fresher legs, Hamilton and Williams would have made more game changing plays which was needed. Couldn’t hurt that much more since we were getting gashed anyway. Instead both had their most unspectacular games this season. Give 15-20 snaps to each of their backups even in big games. All the best programs like Georgia do it and so should we. 300+ guys are conditioned to play 50 snaps in a game!
Also give matthews some snaps. Absurd he wasn’t given an opportunity with Burke looking like a fish out of water the entire game. Walton/knowles needs to be asked why they didn’t try someone different here with Burkes struggles.
Bennett Christian will have to be a pivotal guy for us a blocking TE. I’d also expect to see more Gurd. Would love for Thurman to take the next step but he seems to be lagging a bit behind
Hoping he can take the next step where he knocks runners backward instead of making tackles falling backward and giving up another couple yards. Giving how he seems to be progressing I think he'll make more big plays in the future.
Styles literally the only player that put any kind of pressure on Gabriel all night, and he did it once on a TWO MAN rush. If that had been a 4 man , typical rush, Gabriel probably can't just casually step up to the right and deliver the ball downfield.
Instead the entire defense was playing screen. Baffling.
Giving styles credit for being unblocked in backfield early on a blitz assignment and being inches from Gabriel and then with no big move from Gabriel he whiffed the sack is not positive to me. I had nightmares about that horrible play by styles and it cost us the win as Gabriel scored.
IIRC, a couple of years ago LJ was criticized for over rotating. Mainly because of the timing of his rotations. He changed last year (I think) to almost nonexistent rotation. Guy seems to be too bull headed to be a good coach.
We are no experts here, but the lack or rotation is very puzzling. So much talent in the D line with so few playing? How many times does a player get burnt before he gets a time out? Our coaching in big games continues to draw questions.
Literally the entire time Tyleik was out people kept saying it’s clear the backup DTs aren’t that good and need more work before they play in bigger games. Now suddenly in biggest game yall want to take the best players off the field for guys we saw weren’t that good against much weaker competition. I swear yall will just bitch about anything and everything after a loss
If this is a team game, why the hell dont we rotate the DBs we got 4 star recruits sitting on the bench. When its not your day such as Burke you got to try something new if nothing else get some fresh legs out there. Even superstar defense players in the NFL get a few snaps of rest. The coaching staff on both sides need to be held accountable for player management. The only time we subout is when is a star player get hurt. Much as Burke was running and chasing WRs he couldnt come up with a phantom cramp. Just saying.
I am going to guess that Burke is hurt again he did that same shitty tackling when he had a bad shoulder a couple of years ago. I can't believe he could be this bad without something wrong. Hell I think a backup defensive tackle could have covered as well as he did.
This D-line couldn't get any pressure from four men.
The fact ^^.
The answer?
a. more blitz and gamble more?
b. rotate more?
c. better stunts and that kind of stuff?
d. better pre-game scouting?
Crap D-line will severely limit the D's ability to get off the field. Caleb Downs is a baller and Igbinosen seems to hold his own but unless Burke gets his act together, our secondary is not going to be able to shut down good passing teams alone.
More Curry, Reese, and Mathews. Crazy these 3 didn't play more considering our lack of pressure on the QB and Burkes lack of doing anything productive.
Also we just bitch about things without realizing backups are backups for a reason. People going on about Caden’s motor. His motor contributed a PFF grade of 61. The worst of the defensive ends. He had 1 tackle, 1 stop, 0 hurries. He did nothing.
Henderson was killing them. Of course, we did not stay with the run. We have seen Matthews play well; he should have been in there so Burke could get his shit settled down. Burke spent too much time peeking in the backfield. JTT got greedy on Gabriel’s TD run. He would have freaking smashed Gabriel if he stayed with his responsibility. We won TOP possession handily, so it was disappointing to see guys get gassed. Curry flashed as always. Q was forced to pay way too much of a price for a “fumble” which was a strip as he was driven backwards. Michalski actually seemed to hold up ok. Coaches have got to manage clock better. Go Bucks!!
It was obvious watching TV copy but seeing it on paper it’s even more glaring. Not rotating on Defense killed us. We have enough depth to rotate and stay fresh like all too programs do. The fact that the D line hardly ever rotated, that the linebackers NEVER did and the corners never do either is insane. Especially when Oregon was using tempo and our D had never played this many snaps in a season before. Arvel Reese has been our best backer and he played 4 snaps? And why not rotate the D line way more to keep them fresh especially when they’re not being effective at all? Same for the corners. I’ve never liked how Hartline doesn’t rotate receivers more bc I think we have the ability to there as well but Defense gets gassed quicker than offense and it’s no wonder we aren’t getting stops in the 4th quarter. This is issue number 1 that can be easily fixed.

That is not a rotation at DT. It may be a SUBStitution but not a ROTAtion. Rotation would look something like 35 35 25 25. Sad.
I mean if the other 2 guys are good enough for that kind of rotation….. obviously that’s your idea of it….
Artthedart
So who’s covering the remaining 40% of snaps? Because your math only adds up to 60% of snaps
The numbers were not percentages, but actual snap counts.
GO BUCKS!!! *ichigan sucks!!!

Gee Scott seemed to have a good game. Hope he can build on that.
Anyone know if Kacmarek's injury is long-term?

Birm said in the post game it appeared to be a broken arm
Dang, that sucks. Thanks for the update, Keith

We didn't lose because of DT rotation
I disagree. We can't stop the run or apply pressure late in the game. When you see the D-line bent over gasping for air you know you have them beat.

This. All of this. Losing sucks but we win this game 10/10 times on a neutral site.

How did I talk to you exactly?
You care so much about being correct and proving someone else wrong that you'd rather our defense be bad just to say you were right?

Nothing better than posters bragging about the team they love losing because it makes them right.

I AM SO SICK OF our coaches’ stubbornness

There’s Curry’s motor and everybody else’s. Definitely needs more snaps.

I love Curry too, but I don't think he's totally one of a kind. A lot of times I feel the exact same way about Mitch Melton

For a team that claims to have so much depth they sure don’t utilize it. So I’m going to throw the BS flag on the claim of depth at every position.
If you can’t make a fourth and one, you don't deserve to win.
Sawyer was on the field for 59 plays?? Could've fooled me.
Bennett Christian will have to be a pivotal guy for us a blocking TE. I’d also expect to see more Gurd. Would love for Thurman to take the next step but he seems to be lagging a bit behind
Linebackers? They are out there playing?
I have heavily criticized Styles throughout the year, but compared to almost everyone else, he looked solid.
How firm thy friendship

64 snaps too many for Denzel burnt. It appears he actually did come back for bs. BIA is not the acronym he should be using, UDFA is more appropriate.
Or STFU
More Curry, Reese, and Mathews. Crazy these 3 didn't play more considering our lack of pressure on the QB and Burkes lack of doing anything productive.
I think we compare these to other teams, without actually knowing other team’s snap counts. So we are comparing them to our imagination.

The kicker got pulled for shanking 3 kickoffs in a row. How many times do you need to get burned before you’re pulled
Ask Denzel.
Gabe Powers should enter the portal. He’s wasting his time here.
