I love Curry too, but I don't think he's totally one of a kind. A lot of times I feel the exact same way about Mitch Melton
He's a good, solid player. I hope he gets about 2.3 yards per carry Saturday then resumes his excellent season.
Maybe easiest road to the semis, but then they would have to play #1
Graham also was a June (not January) arrival. Tough for those guys to get much run.
That’s normal. They took veteran walk-ons over scholarship freshmen at TE, OL, LB and S too
I raise this issue a lot when we run five wide. A QB very rarely has time to find even a fourth guy, much less a fifth (yes, I know, some guys are in the pattern just to clear out defenders). I would much, much prefer we do more four-guys-in-the-pattern with an RB staying in to pick up a rusher (often after play-action), rather than lots of five wide.
Or run four wide plus an in-line tight end focused on chipping a DE then leaking out as a safety valve. On 95% of pass plays, I think there is more value in having player #11 be a sixth blocker first and foremost.
If you have the best receivers in the country, why not provide an extra 0.7 seconds of clean pocket to let them burn people?
Syracuse coach, asked in the halftime interview how they've been so good on third down today: "Because we have Kyle McCord. It's like they allowed us to have 11 full-time coaches instead of 10."
Haha, nice StL! The specific reference to how many points the offense scored was only because you said "the offense scored over 50"
I actually have much less lofty expectations than most -- hence my stated pregame goal of "If we win comfortably and nobody gets hurt, it's a great day." And I was fine with the outcome.
Maybe too much time around the education world -- I think I just have a different opinion of what a "C" means, and I don't think a C was "harsh" for OSU. A "C" means you did OK. You met but did not exceed expectations. Which is exactly what OSU did last week in my opinion. Go Bucks!
My first thought on this game was that Michigan was going to surprise people and at least make it a tight game in the fourth quarter, with more of a shot at the big upset than most people thought. The thing that changed my mind is remembering that Texas was in this exact scenario last year, going on the road to face Alabama in week 2, and walked out with a 10-point win.
I thought the whole D-line was impressive. JT was especially good early, Jack got a ton of pressure a smidge later, and Tyliek was just the wrecking ball he always is in the middle. ... Plus TyHam had 4 tackles, plus Kenyatta and Mitch each had a half-sack, plus Caden forced a fumble for a TD, plus Eddrick Houston deflected 2 passes, one of them creating Powers' TD.
Oregon's an "F" ... no way around it. Leading an FCS team by 3 with 6 minutes to go gets no other grade. Michigan's probably a D or D-minus because while Oregon played an FCS opponent and OSU played a 2-10 MAC team, Michigan played an FBS team that won 9 games last year and managed to end up winning by 20.
"Doesn't a 'C' seem a little harsh?" is the everybody-gets-an-A mentality. We were favored by 48.5 and won by just a few less than that. A "C" makes sense. I mean we played Akron. And no, the offense didn't score over 50. The offense scored 38.
A) Stop making things up. It's not like 40 or 80 or 100 years ago, every man on earth was honest and true, but now the world is a den of iniquity. There were noble and conniving people back then, just like there are now.
B) These are 16-17-year-old kids, not men ... some of whom have never held a dollar, as the saying goes ... being wooed with millions by some of the finest salesmen in the country. Think back to who you were and what you did at 17 before you judge.
They said something about McGuire having a "much better" week of practice. Don't know if that means McLarty was back to the inconsistency he had earlier in camp or what.
Wasn't Smith's second TD a slant? ... The one ball I saw him throw to a TE (Kacmarek) was over at the pylon, and a touch high.
I was unhappy with Howard's passing performance (not his running or rush-evading) immediately after the game, mostly influenced by that 6-for-16 start. After rewatching, I do feel better about the balls he threw, with one remaining concern. He forced a few too many balls that could have been turnovers -- to Egbuka early on the near-PI, to Judkins short over the middle, to Inniss on the play behind the line to the right, and of course the weird backward thing. It was the first game, and I'm sure he's already seen all of that on tape. Get it cleaned up and all will be well.
The three guys awarded were all worthy. ...... Sawyer, Henderson and Howard, mentioned by others, were all worthy. ...... And since no one mentioned him, Tyliek Williams was worthy (second in tackles with 7, second in TFL with 1.5, including a sack)
Nah, he threw a couple on attempted rub routes that could have been picked. It's the opener, we won comfortably, and to my knowledge, nobody got seriously hurt. All good, and let's get a little better next week.
Start of Iowa-Illinois State -- punt, punt, INT, punt, fumble, FG, punt, punt, punt, downs, punt, punt
I see the new Iowa offense is off to a good start.
If we win comfortably and nobody gets hurt, it's a great day.
If we win by 40-plus and nobody gets hurt, it's a really great day
I'm extremely happy Melton is a Buckeye this fall. I've been a fan of his for a couple years and think he can wreak havoc when he's on the field. At the same time, I'm surprised he didn't take the JJB route and transfer to someplace like ND. Javonte wasn't going to start for us, but he transferred and led a top-15 team in sacks and TFLs last year.
May every Buckeye be blessed with health this year ... but one of the things that makes me think of this team as a true championship contender is how many positions where the backups could step in if needed and play at starter quality.
AZ Buck, your comment that we have "no proven production" among our backup safeties is an annual unwarranted worry. Almost no teams nationally have 2024 backups who have proven production from 2023 (at any position). Almost all players who got an opportunity and proved themselves last year are either 2024 starters, or transferred to start somewhere else. ...... OSU is actually rare in having ANY players (Carson Hinzman, Caden Curry, Jermaine Mathews, etc), who have shown real capability on the field but stuck around without a starting spot.
I will be thrilled if Jeremiah Smith catches 850+ yards and 8+ TDs, but given that we've had a great run of all-world WRs, and Garrett Wilson's 432 yards and 5 TDs is the best freshman season in well over a decade, I would probably guess the under ... at least on yards.
