Per Wiltfong, Ohio State is one to watch with Arkansas OT commit Connor Howes.

Ohio State is still searching for a couple more bodies on the OL.

HS
AlltimeTE's picture

Agree T, Looks like just a body, offer list not impressive

HS
CTBuckeyeFan's picture

Sam Pittman wanting him is a good sign though.

HS
bull1214's picture

There are Ohio players they could get easily if they just want a “body”. They don’t all peak after their sophomore/junior year. Maybe his senior film is looking good.

Should Stewart come along to the class, would that put any dline outside of Mathis at risk of a flip?

Galloway and Guthrie are both DJRS guys so they train together and know each other very well. Wouldn't read into it anymore than that

Also, Guthrie is in the 2026 class.

Could be. But Galloway is also a Columbus kid and grew up a buckeye fan. Might not be anything there.

HS
BuckeyeRealist13's picture

Why does this make you go hmmmm?

HS
keith7456's picture

I didn't know the fact a poster posted above that they know each other very well.

If that wasn't a fact then you have an Ohio kid that badly wants an Ohio State offer who just decommitted from somewhere shouting out another kid for getting an offer.

Them knowing each other and training together changes that dynamic.

HS
Squatchy's picture

I am probably reading into it way too much, but I feel like the buckeye emoji could be a tell. They know each other so it is not surprising he is congratulating him. However, Walton is in contacts with corners and Galloway just decommitted. Again, probably cannot look into it more than I am.

DL Jahkeem Stewart is an LSU vs Ohio State battle, per LSU insider Shea Dixon.

HS

With several dlinemen leaving at the end of this year there will be plenty of opportunity for early PT for any freshman that is good enough. Come on up Mr. Stewart ... very hard pull to get a LA kid away from LSU.

Steve Wiltfong agrees that it is Ohio State, not USC, that is the biggest threat to pull Jahkeem Stewart out of Louisiana.

HS
teeedawg's picture

Not 2025, but relevant to this board - Keon Keeley is no longer dressing for away games at Alabama.

Alabama sold Keeley on playing OLB in their 3-4 defense (the "Will Anderson" STAR role). To nobody's surprise, they scrapped that plan this offseason and forced Keeley to bulk up to a run-stuffing DL.

He is no longer listed on Alabama's depth chart, and has played a total of ten snaps in his college career.

Keeley is almost guaranteed to transfer out after this year, and Ohio State will be at the top of his list.

Very nice.  Would love to get this kid in the fold next season.

HS
Ambivalent_Buckeye's picture

Seriously don't get why yall get excited about guys like this. Saban obviously sold him on the wrong position but if he was any good the current staff would be playing him on the dline even in blowouts. The fact that he's not even traveling should be a massive red flag

HS
AlltimeTE's picture

Money grubbing Uncle screwed this kid…….

HS
Simpleman424's picture

Maybe it’s the heat or maybe it’s because he’s miserable there…I can’t tell, but it doesn’t look like someone enjoying themselves regardless

God Bless

HS
OSUtopia's picture

Based on what he has done at Bama in 1 1/2 seasons, why would OSU want him? The 2024 Bama defense is NOT good. If the kid had something, wouldn't he be playing? Can't even make the travel squad. Overrated?

OSUtopia

HS
logamaniac's picture

Or they made him gain weight too quickly and now hes soft and slow

HS
AZ Buckeye13's picture

Curry had the same problem early in his career. He added weight and it took him a year to start to feel comfortable at that weight. Now he has been a monster for us on the DL.

HS
raiderred's picture

That was one of the worst high school decisions I’ve seen. He was never the quick twitch explosive athlete Anderson was. His high school coach should have been able to point that out easily to him and steered him to a 4-3 defense. Would have done so much better at OSU or even Notre dame.  I’d be down to take a chance on him with scholarships increasing but I don’t think he’s going to be that great. It’s hard to go back to being a dominant player after being messed with and moved all over at Bama.

HS
Silver Bullets 22's picture

Pretty sure they are selling the same dream to Justin Hill. With a similar player in profile also committed. Snake Oil at its finest. But Keely was a 4-3 DE all the way. Never had the genetics to be a OLB. And doesn't have the strength to be a 3-4 DE. Caught between a rock and a hard place. He almost transferred when Saban left. But somebody paid him, again.

Bullets will be back to save the season, and Stroud's dignity.

HS
CaptainPicard2014's picture

Justin Hill is your prototypical 3-4 EDGE guy. Even we were selling him on being the JACK, which is a hybrid obviously. Keon was just never going to work as a 3-4 guy. And honestly I suspect even here he’d be a bust considering Bama doesn’t even have him on the travel roster. That’s just the sign of a bad player

HS
BaltimoreBuck's picture

Not sure I agree, still may eventually be a bust, but Alabama's 3/4 DEs have to be bigger and Stronger than the DE in a 4/3 scheme. If he did transfer here he will definately need a year to learn the position. Dylan on the other hand, would probably start at WDE.

HS
CaptainPicard2014's picture

Alabama doesn’t really play a 3-4 anymore though. Their new DC has a defense similar to what Knowles had at OK State. It’s 4-2-5 with one of those 4 being a hybrid guy who can play SAM LB stuff and play DE. Also Keon has 10 snaps period in his career. Saban clearly didn’t think he was doing well enough for his role. And their new staff doesn’t think he’s good enough for the travel roster. That just screams bust no matter where he went to me

HS
bull1214's picture

He needs a reset for sure.

HS
YoungBossBuckeye's picture

Him and Dylan Stewart should be bookend edge rushers for us next year.

HS
OSUtopia's picture

Yeah, that machine gun taunt would go over really well here....................

OSUtopia

HS
bull1214's picture

I think I’ll roll with the dudes we have but if they wanna come in and help then sure why not. Neither one is keeping Houston off the field tho.

HS
OSU069's picture

Well Dylan Stewart is unreal and is going to be a superstar. Keeley who knows though he’s completely unproven I would still take him though we are going to need some transfers with how much we are losing.

HS
bull1214's picture

I don’t see a big need for transfers. Difference makers are something you always consider of course but the cupboard is far from bare. I see tons of complaints about not getting enough of the depth PT right now and that depth will/should be back. Add in a large DL class that’s about to come in with possibly multiple ready to play now dudes and I’m feeling Uber confident. The 3rd/4th stringers that aren’t ready this season will be more ready next season. I think we always forget that.

HS
Squatchy's picture

Yeah I can see a need for a DT or 2, but not really a DE. I would imagine you take Stewart and take a look at Keon though.

How firm thy friendship

HS
OSU069's picture

Definitely need a DT in the portal next year. I could also definitely see the need for another high level safety and maybe a LB depending on how guys progress. Offensively obviously an OT is needed and maybe even 2. The reality is with the amount of high-end players we are losing you have to take some good transfers or you will fall behind a little even with how we recruit. I'm sure Ryan Day will.

HS
bull1214's picture

This convo was about D Line transfers specifically. I think the large DL class is because they don’t want to bring in transfers, especially at DT.

HS
BuckeyeGrove's picture

Stewart looks like a phenom, but I'm not sure Keely is a take. Part of the problem comes from packing on weight too quickly, as well as what has to be a lot of frustration, but after two years in college there's no need to take a kid just because they were a past 5*.

HS
Simpleman424's picture

Weight can be lost, feelings can be mended but God given ability like his is not something you run across every day.

God Bless

HS
undercoverbuck's picture

I view Keely like Tywone Malone. If we have a need for depth, then he's a take. He's not someone I would disrupt the DE room for with how little he's played.

Now Stewart on the other hand... that's a Caleb Downs type player where you do everything in your power to get him.

Now i become Boob Salsa, grifter of men.

HS
teeedawg's picture

Also not 2025, but old friend Koi Perich has been balling out for Minnesota - flew in like a missile to ice the game vs USC.

2024 sure seems like one of the best recruiting classes in recent memory.

HS
pcola_buckeye's picture

I commented in the 'Evening Games Thread' about how saddened I was when we couldn't pull Koi Perich from his home state.  Never-the-less, he's fun to watch and only getting started!

HS
JohnnyKozmo's picture

What was with the USC player trying to get the ball from him?  I assume it's because it was a USC ball since they were on offense?

That BTW makes no sense to me.  Why do teams get to use their own footballs?  No other sport does that (golf obviously but that's apples and oranges).  Growing up there was a game ball that both teams used.  My ref buddy said it's so they can doctor them up how they want...but that's my whole point.  They should be playing with the same ball.  It's part of the varying conditions during the game (lighting, wind, rain, field, etc.) that both teams have to deal with.

You're too stupid to have a good time. -Dalton

HS
Boomhauer323's picture

Kicking balls as well.  I’ve noticed the school logo on the balls being held for extra points and field goals.  I agree that it makes no sense.

HS
bull1214's picture

The air pressure in the football is a range of about 1 pound. Some like it less filled and some like it more filled. Until there’s only one weight, they can use their preferred one.

HS
Woodshed's picture

This. If they let teams use their own ball, they take away any chance for complaining from one team or the other about things not being “fair”. Not enough air, too wet, too icy, blah blah blah. If they use their own ball, there’s no excuse.

HS
JBuck5's picture

QBs will also mud the ball, etc to their preferences.

HS
JohnnyKozmo's picture

Then why not make it a uniform air pressure and use the same ball?  Every other sport has figured it out.

You're too stupid to have a good time. -Dalton

HS
bull1214's picture

My guess would be a little leeway for weather conditions.

HS

Years ago and as the result of another 'game ball' issue, I was shocked that the teams keep their own balls, rather than the 'league'! It still seems silly to me.

Per Wiltfong, there are people in Jahkeem Stewart's camp who have Ohio State as his leader.

Wiltfong notes that Stewart is not afraid of going to school out of state, and that Stewart believes Larry Johnson is the best DL coach in America.

Stewart’s visit schedule sets up perfectly for the Buckeyes as well.

HS
YoungBossBuckeye's picture

We're sending all 4 of our DL starters to the league after this year. He has an opportunity to crack the rotation relatively early in his career. That should also play into his decision.

HS
teeedawg's picture

Per Wiltfong, Ohio State is trying to get Na’eem Offord back on campus for both the Nebraska and Michigan games.

Tim Walton is being aggressive, and Ohio State is not backing down.

A win over Oregon in front of Offord this week would go a long way towards staving off a flip.

HS
BaltimoreBuck's picture

Wilfong on Oregon site stated Offord may not go to the Ohio State/Oregon game this weekend. No reason given yet.

HS
OSU069's picture

I guess it has to be considered a good thing that he is even considering not going anymore although Auburn still seems to be the main competition.

HS
Calgarybuck's picture

I worry though, will his HS team make the playoffs.  What our older fans love having a noon kick never seem to realize our top recruits from out of state rarely get a chance to make it as HS playoffs go into Mid-December and mostly on Friday nights preventing kids from getting a plane into Columbus in time.

HS
YoungBossBuckeye's picture

It honestly annoys me that we have to try to get him back on campus. Wouldn't a commit be excited to come back and help recruit? I realize that not every recruit is like St. Clair who lives 45-50 minutes away. But we're a national title contender. We're an NFL factory. I understand that some recruits commit to ensure a spot in a class. But if you're not completely set and not 100% bought into the program, if you're not peer recruiting or focused on your future at that program, just don't commit and simply wait until signing day.

Whether if you're committed to a program or not, for NIL purposes, you still have leverage.

HS
Beantown_Buckeye's picture

It's 2024 and this is how it is. Also, anyone without extremely scarlet colored glasses knew that Offord was going to be one of the toughest recruits to keep in the class. This is just how it goes when you try and hold onto a top-10 recruit from somewhere like Alabama. No reason to let it annoy you when this was reality from the second Offord committed here. Walt will have to fight to the finish in this recruitment.

HS
CaptainPicard2014's picture

Even before 2024 flips were always a thing and coaches were always watching guys who might flip. Urban had a name for himself at Florida with the “last second” flips

HS
teeedawg's picture

Wiltfong believes that Georgia is the favorite to finish with the #1 class based on what they have left on the board.

Georgia’s remaining board:
Elijah Griffin, Justus Terry, Chase Linton are all favored to pick Georgia.

Georgia has an excellent shot at flipping Lagonza Heyward and CJ Wiley.

Not sure where adding those five puts Georgia in the class calculator, but they would definitely be pretty close to us.

HS
nafimafi's picture

those 5 make UGA's class 312.14, slightly behind OSU's current 312.23

HS
BaltimoreBuck's picture

Plus that gives them 27 commits to our 26, barring anymore additions or subtractions.

HS
CorchUrb's picture

I’d have to imagine if we can hang onto what we have, and then land Stewart and flip another OL, we would finish #1

HS

Should have Tim Walton tell the Offord's to reach out to Jordan Seaton and ask what it's like to be thrown under the bus, have the bus reverse and go forward a few times and then once you're done being run over, being forced to stand behind the guy who threw you under said bus during a press conference for a photo op that says "look we're all one happy family!"

HS
lljjgg's picture

It's absolutely wild to me that anyone thinks Deion is going to be at Colorado post-Shadeur, Shiloh and Travis Hunter. I was a huge Deion fan growing up, but even I have to be realistic about the fact that Deion the coach is a product of having Shadeur and Travis Hunter, as soon as they're gone Colorado's floor drops out from under them, they haven't built any talent around them in the two years they've been there. Do we really think Deion is going to want to stick around to try to build that roster? I don't. I think the minute Shadeur and Travis Hunter get drafted is the minute he bolts Colorado, it won't be fun to him any more.

HS
AlltimeTE's picture

Timing sets up perfectly for him to take over in Tallahassee

HS
AZ Buckeye13's picture

Sanders doesn’t like to hit the road to recruit. If someone wants to go to Colorado, they have to go to Sanders. He just looks at players in the transfer portal to fill out the roster.

HS
le_royale's picture

Where's Deion going?

He hasn't had a lot of success in Boulder, and while he's driven a lot of interest in the program, it's more of a reality television kind of popularity than a legitimate football team. Suppose he sells a lot of Colorado merch, but if I'm interested in winning football game and not just appearing in headlines, there are dozens of other directions I'd go in hiring a head coach.

I can't imagine any AD with a program better than Colorado's tying him/herself to that circus.

HS
BuckeyeGrove's picture

Have to think some of the Colorado talk is them playing a near mid-major schedule. Doubt that keeps going if they lose 3+ more and Deion's overall record remains mediocre.

Trust OG Walt, friends.  If Offord goes elsewhere, we all know why.  If he wants to be developed into an NFL-ready prospect, he'll come to Columbus and take advantage of not just having Walt as his coach, but also the resources at The Woody that those other schools do not have.

HS

“If he wants to be developed into an NFL-ready prospect, he'll come to Columbus and take advantage of not just having Walt as his coach, but also the resources at The Woody that those other schools do not have.”

Right, like the best WR room in the country to go up against in practice.

I trust Walt but as has been said many times, if he goes elsewhere it won’t be because of something the staff or program did wrong.

I doubt they will wreck his draft stock, every corner gets beat by a really good schemer.  The trick is limiting how many of them and how big those beats are.

I think youre mistaken, theres some cuts on youtube showing when they were matched up but marvin didnt abuse JPJ like a full round drop would insinuate.

JPJ slipped because he was too handsy and relied on his athleticism/physicality, if the first pick of the second round is slipping (technically was the 32nd pick which would still indicate a first round selection)

Good. We need all the help we can get at DT right now, so it will be even worse when Tyliek and Ty leave after this season. We'll need to hit the portal hard for the defensive line next season. We should be tampering and Jackson should be near the top of the list for kids we should tamper with. Starting for Brent Venables as a true freshman is impressive even if it's at Oklahoma

HS
teeedawg's picture

Per Wiltfong, CB Na'eem Offord will be at Ohio State vs Oregon this weekend.

Flight booked last night.

HS
teeedawg's picture

The holdup was that Oregon wanted Na'eem Offord to come a couple weeks later vs Illinois to have a more “intimate” visit with fewer prospects and less fanfare.

Offord and his family said no because they are going to Ohio State vs Nebraska that weekend.

HS
DaytonBuck99's picture

So while at the game as a guest of Oregon, he is actually recruiting the key recruits for the good guys. All recruiting is deception.

Dayton Buck 99

HS
BaltimoreBuck's picture

Yea, I actually don't feel Oregon is all that much of a threat, their only advantage is NIL money from Phil, the Offords are doing their due diligence and Auburn is our main rival, not because of their coaching abilities, but because of location and the girlfriend rumor of her going to Auburn. But Ohio State has Walt, NFL history, winning tradition, a brotherhood long after graduation. When I read other sites you would be surprised at how few players come back to promote the school they went to on a game day with recruits compared to Ohio State. He'll even Joe Burrow has returned and he transfered to LSU. That the strength of the brotherhood.

HS
ParadiseBuckeye's picture

What do we thin that next convo between him and Burke sounds like?

HS
GoBucks24's picture

Not trying to overreact, but curious others thoughts: Will last nights game be a bigger factor in recruiting in the future? My thought was that we needed to win the game to prove we are still the clear Alphas in the B1G. After last night, I feel like Oregon has really opened the door in recruiting and has a chance to go to the next level.

HS
Ambivalent_Buckeye's picture

It changes nothing. Oregon has been a big program for the entire life of recruits. Their recruiting has a glass ceiling because they are without a recruiting base they can tap into like we do with Ohio or the SEC does with Texas and the South. This class Oregon has elite top end recruits that they got with NIL but as you get down to the 6th, 7th, etc player on down the list they fall well behind SEC schools and us. That's how it will always be

HS
Poofdads's picture

And yet Oregon has beat OSU the last two times they played…

How many years now has OSU had elite recruiting classes but consistently gets exposed by teams with equal talent?

Recruits change their mind based on the outcome of one game. This has ALWAYS been the case. It's why at the end of the year, all the recruits decide to go to only ONE school, the ONLY one that actually wins it all.

Dawayne Galloway tweeted out last night that you can't have Jermaine Mathews on the bench.  While he's not wrong, criticizing staff decisions probably won't help him get that scholarship offer......although he probably wasn't going to get it anyway.

I just mention that since he recently de-committed from Purdue and there was some talk about whether we'd get involved.

HS

He's right and we all know it. Jermaine Matthews himself was pissed that he was kept on the bench and tweeted about it.

Devin Sanchez also tweeted about it. I'm a Burke guy, but him having that long of a leash makes it hard for a recruit to look at us and think he's getting playing time. Even when the dudes getting absolutely cooked you won't give a younger guy a chance?

HS
buckeyeguy0615's picture

Day just doesn't have that killer mentality. I will always cite Saban replacing Hurts for Tua in the National Championship game. Burke was already getting cooked, that should have been an extremely easy decision for Day, but recruits DO see these things.

HS
BuckeyeRealist13's picture

Idiotic post.

Day hired UCLA’s head coach to be a coordinator, he kicked Kyle McCord to the curb, and brought in a QB that he essentially made QB1 from the jump, not caring about other QBs who have been in the program longer. He didn’t care at all about Air Noland’s feelings and brought in Julian Sayin.

He took Caleb Downs straight from Georgia’s grasp,

Ive always said it, there is no lower IQ sports fan than an Ohio State fan coming off a loss.

HS
pcola_buckeye's picture

I still believe that Saban replaced Hurts because it was part of the game plan for that game and had nothing to do with Hurts struggling in the 1st half.  Tua was an unknown and a great way to put something on the field that hadn't been scouted.

What this means for his recruitment aside, he is absolutely right. Denzel Burke needed to go to the sideline. Jermaine Matthews is if nothing else, bigger and more physical and therefore more capable of at least making a tackle. They could have thrown LOS passes to those receivers on his side and dragged forward 6 yards worst case scenario on Burke. I like Denzel, but that was an eye-opening game where you have to really question whether that kid is going to be able to match up in any capacity against NFL receivers. That was a great opportunity to see what Matthews could do on the big stage when called upon against a great group of receivers and it was a missed opportunity to see something different. If nothing else, I think these incoming players would like to believe that the staff allows for opportunity on the young guys to get a crack if the older guys are not getting it done. Really bad job there.

Just to clarify, I don't disagree with Galloway.  At all.  I just don't know if it helps his case in getting an OSU offer by criticizing staff decisions.  I know Urban had stronger views on that kind of stuff, so who know if this current staff would even care.  But I doubt Galloway gets an offer regardless of this tweet.

We win out, keep all of our recruits (at the moment I only worry about Offord) flip Autry, a CB if we lose Offord, a CB if we don't lose Offord, and Chaz Coleman and Turbo Rogers. We finish with 30 recruits and IMO the #1 class.

Is there any real optimism about flipping Autry? Genuinely curious.

I mentioned this in another thread, but one thing I'm observing is the need for more game changers on the DL. I am not gonna trash guys like Tyleik, Sawyer and JT who are all very good, but this program needs more impact guys in the trenches in my opinion. Will be interesting to see if we pursue some DL's this coming offseason since we're gonna lose so many.

Anyway, this class features some talented DL commits that I'm very excited about. Hope we can keep them in the fold and that the program can continually have dominant guys in that room. Will also be interesting to see if LJ retires and what impact that has on things.

Auburn has 4 interior/SSDE DL recruits already and are still hoping to take 2 more, plus the fans say they think he is overrated because he lacks stats this year. There was also a post, may be a troll, that says a relative of his was saying he was all OSU because Auburn keeps losing. Who really knows, but him showing up for the Michigan is big, just 4 days before signing day begins, but it is even bigger if he shows up for another game. Remember these are unofficial visits.

We need transfer portal OTs. We can't wait two years for a kid to get ready. We need a couple of guys who have already spent a couple of years in a Power 4 S&C program.

Simmons may decide to come back next year because of the injury. Probably depends on his draft grade.

HS
PeneiSewell's picture

We need both. We need transfer tackles because Simmons might need some time to get back to full strength at his own pace while also needing a real honest to God right tackle to replace Josh Fryar. We also need to flip a high school tackle in recruiting because our depth sucks ass and the only real offensive tackle on the roster just suffered a season ending injury. Problem is, our OL coach has proven that he can't recruit, so we're just yelling into the void knowing nothing has a chance of changing until Frye is gone

HS
bull1214's picture

While I fully believe they will bring g in a transfer OT, Simmons for 2 years is what buys you time to develop the younger guys. At some point, you have to put an inexperienced player out there or live in the portal.

Simmons is going to the NFL.  He is already receiving some first round hype in mock drafts.

HS
undercoverbuck's picture

First round grades in week 6 mean nothing. Plus he's coming off a season ending injury. He's probably not able to test at the combine and athleticism is his best trait, hurting his draft stock. Fact is had he finished the year like he started he was probably a second rounder, maybe a late first but that's if his play continued throughout the season. There's some good tackles who aren't injured in the draft as well. He also doesn't have the tape from previous years to show scouts. Also NIL can probably pay him more than whatever mid late round pick he will be.

He can leave but I'd imagine he stays.

Birm on the scholarship "increase"

What I've heard is that every scholarship that gets added up to 105 means removing a scholarship somewhere else at Ohio State. No one at OSU is suggesting they're going to ramp up and immediately go to that number.

HS
BGSUBucksFan's picture

Pretty sure you're the one who twisted my words into somehow meaning the world is ending for OSU football. OSU football will compete year in and out regardless, but it's the programs/coaches that adapt the quickest that reap the benefits.

Alabama oversigned classes year in and out so that they could push out the guys who didn't pan out, and their rosters were stacked because of it. OSU never adopted this totally legal model.

OSU missed out on many elite recruits due to their inability/refusal to immediately adapt to the new NIL landscape (they've fixed this now).

I'm not saying the new scholarship limits will be as impactful as the two examples mentioned above, but they could certainly be used in a similar way as the oversigning.

HS
JohnnyKozmo's picture

My opinion...if they happen to go to 90ish or so because the right guys want into the class that you can't turn down, then you take them.  But as it stands now, how many of the 85 current players rarely if ever will even see the field?  So they should just add 20 more to that number for the sake of keeping up with the Jones, while taking from other sports?

You're too stupid to have a good time. -Dalton

HS
CaptainPicard2014's picture

If you ever go back and look at recruiting classes it’s typically like a 30ish% hit rate as far as starters go. The truly elite classes like 2013 or 2017 will have at least half the class become stars for the team.

HS
MrElectric's picture

You can go look at recruiting history and see that absurdly successful teams like the SEC big dogs routinely sign 4-5 more players per class than OSU.

it matters when not every player pans out. What would’ve happened in 2021-2022 if we’d had just a couple extra guys in the defensive backfield who turned out to be good players?

HS
Silver Bullets 22's picture

Those 20 extra scholarships will certainly help the southern teams who immediately use them for football. Just in theory say they signed 20 three and lower 4* recruits. 5 of those 20 may end up a high caliber starter. May have a Chris Olave or Darren Lee type of player every year. The depth alone on the lines will be significant. In this new Era of 3 to 5 post season games depth will be key. Sec had already found a way to sign 4 to 5 players more per class. This will be that on steroids. We may see a 40 player class. They also could use those scholarships for the transfer portal. To bring in guys who have already started a year and have 2 or 3 years left to play. We need to go full bore off rip. No pussyfooting around waiting to see how it hurts us.

Bullets will be back to save the season, and Stroud's dignity.

HS
TobyMagic's picture

It’s also the transfer portal era.. I think we’ve seen the majority of players in CFB are not willing to stay at a top tier program for limited snaps or to be a ‘depth piece’. I may be wrong but I don’t see SEC programs gaining an advantage of stock piling talent when the number of snaps in a game hasn’t changed.

HS
MrElectric's picture

We’ve got plenty of guys like that. Look at Devin Brown or Zen Michalski, who filled in for Simmons. Lots of guys stay

These things make for good fan conversation.  But whether we have 308 points and #2 overall or 312 points and #1 overall, it matters absolutely none at all.  We'll have some 3* kids that become studs, and probably a 5* kid or two that doesn't.  As long as we're in the 300+ range, the law of averages suggests we'll be just fine.

Honestly, I know people were thinking (pessimistically) that the performance of one of our CBs in one game was going to cause a flip -- but the other side of that coin is Igbinosun and Hancock both had very solid games in my opinion. You also have a coach showing that he's willing to stick with his guys through a rough patch. They all have them, even the best DB in the NFL Sauce Gardner just had one against Minnesota a couple of weeks ago. Lastly I think Emeka and JJ absolutely got theirs against Oregon's DBs. Simmons should consider coming back for another year. I don't think he was going to be a first rounder anyway. But with a season ending injurt, not able to go to the combine, and (depending on how bad the injury is) maybe not even able to work out for team, I think his stock will drop. If he comes back and improves on what he looked like this year he would defintitely be a first rounder, maybe even top 20 type guy. The difference in money between mid first round a low second (guessing here at where he might go now that he's injured) is in the range of $10 million, plus of course whatever NIL a really good LT can get.
