Stay or Go

Frye can go. Everyone else can stay. Because on field results and recruiting combine to make you what you are. LJ needs to bring in a NFL type assistant with some fresh ideas. Particularly hand fighting, stunts, double moves, leverage.

Bullets will be back to save the season, and Stroud's dignity.

This is the way.

I’ll go ahead and leave that up to Day and/or Bjork, since that’s who it’s up to anyways.

It always seems impossible until it’s done

I would say I'm in the third category of "sick of this shit". Watching the film right now, and our best linebacker seems to go hug Oregon's guard on a run up the middle.

I hate to see you go, but love to watch you leave.

Ryan Day & Jim Knowles can stay. I think Day is extremely unlucky, but I can't think of any clear upgrades out there. Knowles is still pretty good in my opinion, I loved last year's Defense.
Frye & Johnson can go. Idk who would replace Johnson, but he's getting older & hasn't produced much lately. To replace Frye, I would attempt to go after Harry Hiestand or someone young from the NFL.

I’ve been saying it for awhile…..time for Coach Prime/S. lol

Looks like you already decided on that OL coach, lol.

Larry Johnson needs to get on board with the Jack or, at the very least, run some stunts up front to make the QB uncomfortable. Ohio State can’t allow a quality QB 4+ seconds to throw. It’s just too hard to cover a receiver for that long. Make the QB throw quickly.

Before people respond with, “The opponent gets the ball quick so the QB can’t get sacked. That’s what coach Day said!” No. DG had all day to throw. Not every thing was quick game. That and PFFs “40% pressure rate…..”is BS.

An aside, I wish there was a paywall feature with PFF to mark the “pressures” during that game. It would be laughable.

At this point, I believe the most rational take is to stay the course and wait for final results before making rash judgements or decisions.

I believe that coaching is a contributing factor to performances like we saw Saturday. I just don't know the extent or where to actually assign blame. I just feel that the team has too much proven talent to deliver a defensive outing like we saw. There is something else in play.

As head coach, Day is ultimately responsible for everything that happens with the team. But a team is managed on game day by coaches - plural.

I would need to know the following : What is the chemistry and dynamics between the head coach and assistants ? Is there truth about the adversarial relationship between Johnson and Knowles ? Who is making decisions here ? Is Day going against advice and making demands from Knowles in terms of strategy or game plans ? These are the things none of us knows for sure so it's hard to decide where the potential coaching issues lie, assuming they are contributing to issues.

If you just start blowing things up on guesses or hunches, you may be blowing up the wrong thing.

Day: Stay. The loses are frustrating but coaches need time to figure it out. We are a spoiled fan base to even consider getting rid of him. He’s far from perfect but it could be so much worse. We think it’s plug and play success because it went Tresse/Urban/Day the last 25 years but that is the exception. 70 years of no significant downturn in the program will do that to us.

Knowles: Stay. I want to see what our defense looks like with the Jack before firing the guy. Unless say a Marcus Freeman somehow becomes available.

LJ: Go. Knowles is more valuable at this point. The disconnect between the two can’t be happening and I really don’t care whose fault it is. Thank you Larry for everything you’ve done and the memories you helped create but it time to enjoy his grandkids. As for a replacement I have no idea. Preferably someone who is high energy and dynamic in recruiting with southern ties. Go get the Coach Lock of DL coaches.

Frye: Stay. Oline has improved a lot and he works well with Chip. Frye without Kelly I’d say go but as long as Chips here he can stay. Sometimes people just work well together.

The coaches need time. Right. Bad news for you. This is the most veteran team you'll see in your life time.

When most HC’s take years to figure out how to win national championships, yes Day should get more time.

Oh, the places you'll go! There is fun to be done!
There points to be scored. There are games to be won.
And the magical things you can do with that ball
will make you the winning-est winner of all.
Fame! You'll be famous as famous can be,
with the whole wide world watching you win on TV.

Johnson and Frye need to show us something through the reminded of the season, otherwise I can see them going. Maybe they need to go. The only DC I would take over Knowles for sure is Brent Venables once Oklahoma fires him lol

Johnson - go
Frye - probably go
Knowles - flip a coin.

Everyone else stay.

The Bills and Lions should fire their current staffs because they’ve both lost a regular season game this year and neither head coach has ever won the big one.

That’s how football works, right?

HS

Neither coach can win big games so yes. They need to be fired.

No such verdicts should be rendered until The Game. However, I'm puzzled by what seems the widespread notion that *if* Day loses The Game this year he starts next year on the hot seat. To me, if Day loses The Game on Nov. 30 - in Columbus, with these players, against this TSUN team - he should go.

As an aside: I know this sounds corny and probably isn't true, but isn't Ohio State's band worth 1 point? Oregon was the first Ohio State game I've ever been to with no OSUMB. And while we were well represented in the stadium, it did feel like the team was really on an island out there. It was an intense, great college football game in so many ways. The defense did turn and get the main Scarlet & Gray contingent fired up (it was behind that end zone in the corner). But for hours it just felt like if we could draw some juice from the crowd or the stadium it would matter. The home field advantage was *real* last Saturday night, in other words. 1 point..........

I mean the D did that before their 4Q goal line stand (not that crowd or band mattered a whit to a sensational player like Caleb Downs. God, that guy is a great football player. That play he made cutting short his blitz and knocking down the pass - just the instincts of a star).

Beat Michigan!
