Dan Lanning is getting way too much credit for this supposed "genius" strategy. It is hard to tell if the 12th man even impacted that play for certain. If the Bucks get a 10 yard gain to the 33 yard line on that play, the 5 penalty yards would have moved them to the 28 with a 45 yard attempt rather than a 50 and if they make it Lanning doesn't look so hot.
I’m sure the logic is the clock continues to tick down and removes the risk of a deep pass. Five yards close for a FG attempt is worth giving up to prevent a deep pass.
If they don't put the 12th man on the field and the result is still an incompletion, aren't the Buckeyes worse off being in a 4th down situation with the same 6 seconds to go? Maybe I am misunderstanding. Thanks.
Also if on the next play, Howard gets down a split second quicker, we potentially make the gw fg. In that case Lanning would have also looked foolish bc the penalty gave us the extra down. If the pass were still incomplete on that 3rd down without the 12th man on the field, the Buckeyes are 4th and 25, no fg attempt, and attempt last play prayer. So really we could argue that the 12th man penalty both gave the Buckeyes an extra down to work with and/or could have been the difference in yardage for a makeable FG to win the game. All depends on the outcome of that 3rd down play and/or if Howard is down in time for a timeout. Point is there are more than one result in which that gamble doesn't pay off and the media isn't licking Lannings nuts.

Every sport I've ever played, the #1 goal was to go undefeated. Then all those other goals will be accomplished. Winning the league #2, winning post season #3, beating rival #4. Then breaking team records, then breaking personal records. Maybe OSU needs to rethink the 3 goals.

Where is the coverage of Josh Simmons did he undergo surgery? What type of injury is he or is he NOT gone for the season. Why not some discussions about the OTHER offensive lineman what are they good at, what do they need to show improvement at??
Why wasnt burke subbed out? He was BENCHED after 1 play vs ND you let him get turned into a peice of burned toast... we are so deep in the secondary where was one of the other studs we have on the roster not put into the game...he couldnt have done any worse!!!
How does the simmons injury impact what we do on offense... Ive not see ANY OF THIS.... You all are REALLY slacking on the job here!!!
Is Will Howard the problem? I think not. Is Denzel's horrififc performance the reason? Is our defense's once again underperforming play an issue? Yep! It seems in big situations, when a stop is needed, we fail to perform. One stop last year against the cheaters...one stop against dui university...one stop against daffy duck...failure failure failure.

Burke is overrated. Why any coach would continue to allow a player who gave up 200 yards in passing is ridiculous and that should be a huge concern.
