Basketball Recruiting Notebook: OSU Makes Top Schools Lists For 2024 Targets Tyler McKinley, Amier Ali And Jonathan Powell, Offers Rising Talents in 2025 and 2026 Classes
He did an OV to Oklahoma, was scehduled to do an OV to Ohio State first weekend in May, then cancelled the OV. The Buckeyes have been in his top 8, but he started receiving more offers since Nike EYBL started, including UConn.
Centerville has a great program. Brook Cupps is doing an amazing job at developing these kids and has turned the program into what it is today. They have made a state run the last 3-4 years and developed kids into D1 level players.
Juni Mobley is the real deal. A true combo guard who can play the 1 or the 2, and a premier shooter. I was psyched when he committed, and he just keeps getting better. Pairing him with Amier Ali would be an ELITE two man class. I’d be pretty happy with McKinley as well.
That's some high level talent that OSU is on but may not have room for. Unless, the hard discussion with a few players at the end of the bench takes place or someone sets the League on fire & leaves for the NBA.
Holtmann has a knack for taking 4* first year players(i.e. Malaki Branham, Brice Sensabaugh) and helping them to achieve one and done status. These are guys you'd hope would return for a second year and become lottery picks the next year, but not enough NIL to wave in Sensabaugh's face to get him to stay. None of the frosh class coming in appear to be a one and done, but thats what was said about Malaki when he began his freshman year. Guys more in the know about bball seem to think it could be a two man class at this point.
This is such a critical year for Holtman, we're at a fork in the road, one way we keep building on the recruiting success with a good year, making the tourney and maybe making a bit of a run on the talent from 2 good classes back to back, the other is we under perform again with a mediocre to bad season miss the tourney again and Holtman gets fired and these kids go elsewhere......really really hoping for the former, basketball purgatory kinda sucks
Just my humble opinion. I've argued that ad nauseum, but I actually think the first 3-4 years were pretty darn good with a decent amount of bad luck mixed in. But, that debate doesn't mean much. It's make or break for Holtmann this year.
Each season provides evidence for and against hope. LIKE YOU SAID THOUGH. Make or break time has arrived my friend. Ya gotta get back to the tournament this year and either this year or next you gotta have some kind of breakthrough.
If it doesn't happen with Bruce Thornton, it aint ever happening.

Having Mobley takes away some sting if Thornton has an elite season and leaves for the NBA. The kid can ball, that's for sure...which is big for a coach who is in desperate need of a breakthrough and is FINALLY under pressure from the fan base and the people who actually matter to have the aforementioned breakthrough.

Give me Ali and McKinley to go along with Juni and I would call that a grand slam. Mckinley has the skill to play the forward or post position at the next level. Ali might be one and done and will be seeking NIL funds and I hope they empty the bank for him. He would be the type of scorer that Sensebaugh brought to the team. Juni can create with the best of them.

Love the basketball updates. Any news on the Aiden Sherrell front? Teammate of Juni that expressed some interest in tOSU

I thought Ali was the one that cancelled his visit and Sherrell was still trying to get one set up?
You are right
this update says he took that official to Columbus may 6

My gut is a lot of the talent Cupps is developing (recruiting) will be heading to IU. We shall see though.

Did Cupps attend or play for IU? Why would a Ohio coach pipeline to IU?

^ best post ever ^
All we have is hope my friend, and six seasons of evidence against that hope.

3, or 2 with one terrible tourney game.

OSU needs a top 10 center asap.
They have a Top 15 center (Top 70 player overall) that only started playing bball a few years ago and has a pretty high ceiling.
I play, coach stays. He goes, I go.
I’m pretty certain I read that Ali had to cancel his OV on may 6th which was a bummer and hurts our chances.
what's a power forward?
The opposite of forward power.
I'm just so glad Bronny James went to USC. He would have been nothing but a distraction.
Ok, let’s give the Bronny thing a rest. It’s over and done with. We have our squad. Let’s tip it up! Go Bucks!!
