Coach Dave Dickerson must have really wanted to come back to OSU. As a former Head Coach at Tulane for 5 years and as a former Associate Head Coach at OSU for 7 years, he should be the highest paid Assistant Coach on the staff and not the fourth, when compared to the other assistants credentials!
Dickerson was not very successful at USC Upstate going 133-201 over 6 years including 10-20 last year. As the story noted he was only making 210K and was not likely to get a raise anytime soon so coming back to Columbus and make 40% more money was probably an easy choice.
Glad to see the athletic department that claims it has an 8 figure shortfall watching the spend a little. None of these guys are gonna starve making $185k or more in Columbus, OH.
Assistant coaches for OSU (the biggest brand in college sports) basketball (2nd biggest college sport) will top out at $400k. In the article above this, it says Josh Petty, a high school FB player who many think is over-ranked, will be making $800k to go to Georgia Tech. Yeah, nothing wrong with this universe.
And a three year contract at that $800k/yr. And should he ball out, he'll be shipping out to make still more money elsewhere. If he flops, it's totally wasted money. The whole NIL thing is non-sustainable. Meanwhile, revenue-sharing will really cull out winners (who can afford it) and losers (who can't).
Justus is a huge pickup. Pay that man. A little concerned about lack of experience on the staff as a whole (this is year four for Battle?) but seems like a solid staff
Justus, Dickerson, and Walker are all very experienced. Used to be you could only have 3 assistants, so I think we are pretty well covered on the experience front, and Battle might not have been coaching long but has a very strong reputation as a coach and recruiter already.
I have never been a big Dickerson fan, but the fact that he's not recruiting and we're not paying him a ton makes it easier for me to understand his place as the figurehead guy with a good amount of HC experience (which Diebler does not have) and familiarity with OSU and the B1G, too.
Simons is kind of a whatever add for me, but if you're gonna use the 5th assistant spot and he is the lowest paid guy, sure, he has some background with player scouting and development and he has some international connections and his last stop was at a great program (Baylor). He's the young assistant you bring in to develop amidst an already strong staff.

Chump change (compared to football coaches)... but still more than I'm making!
One hopes that by April 2025, Buckeye fans will feel that Diebler and staff have earned their salaries well.
Thanks, Andy, for this info / reporting.

I can coach basketball if any of them slots are left. I was wicked good at Double Dribble. Just saying.
Round on the ends and "HI" in the middle. O-HI-O.
And that's TWICE as good as regular dribbling, right?
Lol, I remember that game. You could always hit from the sweet spot where the straight 3 point line started to curve.

He’s not one of the off campus recruiters. Definitely wanted to come back

Crazy how there are 1 + 5 coaches for 13 scholarship players compared to 1 + 10 coaches for 85 scholarship football players.

Yeah but coaching is so volatile. Making $185k is cool but if you never know when your time is coming it’s stressful
I state facts. You get mad
