Some people are inevitably going to clown him for this take because he picked McCord over McCarthy due to Kyle being a better fit for his offense but Day has gotten it right at the QB position a lot more than he's gotten it wrong. And fit absolutely matters for QBs.

It’s also not obvious how much of McCarthy’s success was related to an unfair advantage. Will be interesting to see how he fares in the NFL

Given the way Darnold is currently playing JJ could very well end up getting the Hendon Hooker/Jimmy Garoppolo in NE treatment from the Vikings (unless Darnold prices himself way out of Minnesota's range next year because they can't afford him after they just paid Jefferson). I guarantee Minnesota's juggernaut offense currently is not as efficient with JJ at QB due to his scattershot accuracy throwing downfield. Darnold is a much more polished passer than McCarthy ever was.

I’ve said this all along. I’ll be curious to see how he does in the league. Maybe the Vikings hire Stalions to help him out a little?

Really hope we keep Offord in the fold. Happy Auburn isn’t doing well this season, even though that doesn’t always make a big impact on a recruitment.

The absolute best thing that can happen for us with Offord is Freeze's seat at Auburn getting considerably warmer throughout the year. What reason would he have to flip his commitment to a team with uncertainty around their coaching staff?

The Auburn coaching seat is alway hot….even when they’re winning. It’s like letting the fans be in charge

#Offord  Dude wearing other colors??  I grew up in a different world.  As a coach/recruter I’d say nah, kid is just trying to get more bank.  Go to Coral Gables, we’re good

I hear ya, but in today’s world this will increasingly be the norm for better or worse. NIL has been a massive game changer. There are positives and negatives of course, like with many things. Kids are getting paid just to visit and while it doesn’t give me warm fuzzies, I don’t blame recruits for taking advantage of the situation.

Jeremiah Smith went on many paid visits and thankfully remained committed to the good guys. Hopefully Offord does the same but if he wants to go to Auburn and never compete for a Natty then he’s certainly free to do so.

Offord:  “Still locked in at OSU”…. Said while wearing an Oregon wind breaker. SMH.

Also Offord:

“I’m just showing love to all the schools still recruiting me.”

Doesn’t feel like those sFL RB’s we knew were playing us for more cash elsewhere. Doesn’t feel like those DE’s a few years ago playing us for more cash elsewhere.

This feels more like he’s using them as leverage to get as much out of OSU as possible. I don’t begrudge him if that’s it.

The entirety of recruiting needs to change now that people are getting paid (somewhat) legitimately.

Hmm

So it's as though he's trying to make his current girlfriend(OSU) jealous by fooling around with two other girls. Do those other girls really think they have a shot, or do they know they're being used/played for a fool?

I'm squeamishly optimistic.

Didn't Day pick Dwayne Haskins over Joe Burrow (Heisman Trophy winner, National Champion, and 1st overall pick in the NFL draft)? Didn't Day pick Justin Fields over C.J. Stroud (2nd overall pick in the NFL draft, NFL offensive rookie of the year, 3rd in Heisman voting)?

  1. Haskins was the right choice. He should’ve stayed another year, and he made really bad choices in DC. Not Day’s fault.
  2. Fields was the right choice. (You may be forgetting Fields played the whole 2019 season prior to CJ’s 2020 arrival. He was clearly better and more deserving in 2020.)

Hmm

Yes and yes, and both were the correct choices at the time. We are not comparing their NFL careers: we are comparing an ~18 old Stroud with a ~20 year old Fields, and a ~21 year old Burrow with a ~20 year old Haskins. And the fact is that the latter guys at the time were all better.

Your job in college is not to pick the guys who will do the best after college. Your job is to win, and it just so happens that often the guys who will help you win will often succeed after. Sometimes that’s not the case (as we see with guys like Tim Tebow, Johnny Manziel, Haskins, etc), but those cases do not void their success in college.
