Absolutely, unequivocally yes. We lost a game to the #3 team in the country, at their place, by a point--and Howard played great.

He's also avoided at least 6 sacks this season with his mobility that would have been dozens of yards lost last year.

I remember when in the offseason we said all we needed was a good enough quarterback and our defense will do the rest. Well we have the quarterback and no defense.
There's no one I hate more than irrational Buckeye fans after a loss. Ohio State isn't going downhill just because we lost a game.
Other than 2 miscues, Will played his ass off last Saturday night. Jeremiah, Emeka, Gee and Trey were great, too. They all did way more than enough to put us in a position to win.
Our DL still not being able to generate a pass rush, our corners getting embarrassed and our tenuous OL situation is the reason why we could fail, and we cannot ignore those glaring issues.
My only concern with Will is the deep ball. Underthrows a lot of throws down the field. But I think he has enough and there's enough around him to win a Natty. The question is does he have enough in front of him, Simmons lost hurts, and does the defense have enough?
Without a doubt. I've seen lesser QBs (AJ McCarron, for example) win Championships with talented teams. And anyone who thinks Will Howard was the problem Saturday night is not paying attention.
Absolutely without a doubt Will Howard has what it takes to win us a National Championship. Does Ryan Day, Jim Knowles, Larry Johnson, and Chip Kelly have what it takes is the bigger question.
I think what it comes down to is "can your QB win a game when it's hanging in the balance?" I think Will Howard is a guy that can be relied on to win a game when it matters most. I think if one of those big games comes down to the fourth quarter, he's a guy we can rely on to lead the team and make the plays.

Better question is does the coaching staff and defense have what it takes. OSU has been an embarrassment of riches as far a talent goes for many seasons now, so that's never been the problem. Howard and the offense definitely isn't to blame for the Oregon loss.

YES - he's fourth in completion % at 73.3% & 6th in QBR. With the other weapons surrounding him, that ought to be enough.
