Yes I get it becomes harder with better teams. The point is his defensive stats come mainly from playing teams with inferior talent. Even with that, sacks, turnovers, and pressures have been minimal. The Jack position was a fairy take. His recruiting is non-existent, He has yet to stop a Mich drive in the 2nd half, not a single one. He doesn’t seem to have a working relationship with his defensive line coach. Is this all you get for 2.2 million?

So their not exactly the same, .8% difference. I would say that’s well within their margin of error. Did they not preform on those 3 plays as expected?
I don’t care at this point if Texas jumps Ohio State in the polls. Maybe they should, they beat a more talented team. Just take care of your own business, don’t worry about anybody else, everything will work out. Just need to make the playoffs.
“showed marked improvement through last season”? Started by not having any push against a mighty Youngstown State, ended in the worse performance of an offense line ever seen in the bowl game, shit show in between.
Howard’s got to throw down field to open things up against better teams. The run game is going to struggle with our offensive line play. Need to stretch the field side to side and deep or opponents will stack a tight box and defend both runs/pass options from there. Receivers need deep routes to take advantage of their skills and cover up Oline play. Also, Henderson should be in pass routes 5/10 times a game. He’s a mismatch with a line backer or safety in the open field.
No guarantee on the length of stay. Just enjoy the moment.
Can we move on from the Cheaters comments. They did not cheat last year, went 15-0, and won the Natty. They beat us the prior two years as well, by over 20 each game, don’t think the cheating in those games had a big impact, they won in the trenches. We continually have better recruiting, but still lose. It is what it is, no excuses, man up and take your loses, now try to get better moving forward.
Agreed. The last bowl game was the worst offensive line play I have ever seen out of a college football team. You can’t shit the bed any worse than that. Let’s blame Hinzman even though I don’t think he even got to play. Frye spent the whole year caching them up, great job.
I’m not the biggest Knowles fan. This Jack position I heard so much about seems like a joke. Our Sac totals have tanked since he arrived, with 5 star talent. Does ok against inferior teams, so stats look ok, but has struggled in some big games. It’s been 2 years since he stopped a Mich drive in the second half. Got to do better then that.
I think when we run our 4-3 formation it will have a different affect just based on the speed of Styles and Hicks. Both have good range and cover abilities. Styles is basically another Safety. Both have the length and speed to cover tight ends and some wrs. It may work well, unless the opponent is really spread heavy.
It’s always a good time for some big wins, but chirpin doesn’t help. Respect your opponent, win or lose, it’s only sports.
The only thing trash talking does is gives your opponent more encouragement to try harder against you. No wins against Mich and no big 10 championships in the last 3 years, probably not a good time to start chirpin.
I don’t buy the cheating was a major difference. They didn’t cheat last year. The prior 2 years they got beat by 20, lost in the trenches, pretty obvious. I’m not big on a lot of excuses. We are 0 for the last 3. You are what your record says you are. Don’t like it, need to do something about it.
I think your wish is coming true, enjoy.
Do you want to win a championship or do you want to just buy one? Their needs to be some limits on spend/nil. Almost every major professional sports team has some type of salary cap. Nil has turned college into professional.
Hard to say how much the cheating helped, maybe a little, maybe a lot. I would guess a little, however, nothing this past year. Recruiting ranking are not perfect, but still one of the best indicators of overall talent. When you evaluate the overall talent coming in the door, it’s not even close. When you say their recipe is talent and experience, what you are saying is better coaching. If talent is not coming in the door, then it has to be developed (coaching). If a team has experience every year (3 years in a row) it’s coming from coaching. If Knowles wants to impress me get a 3 and out, or at least force a punt against Mich. I don’t think my standards are too high, actually quite low. And I don’t care you held Youngstown State to 7 points.
In Kienholz defense, the O line was a dumpster fire. Seemed to work out ok for Frye though.
OSU should just buy its own trophy. It would be cheaper and mean about as much as they are doing now.
Day starts talking about hanging a 100, then loses 3 straight, pretty embarrassing. I really don’t get bring this up.
Osu team rushing was outside the top 70, despite having a top running back and playing most teams that you have a huge talent gap. It’s pretty unacceptable. Shuffling the line up before the Cotton Bowl was a coaches decision that wasn’t forced by injury. Coaches need to accept accountability. Don’t know if you heard but we lost to Mich. If you want to claim a morale victory, that we lost by less the 20 this time, then go ahead.
Containment of speed rushers are a big part of the problem.
Being slower and more out of shape will definitely help.
I reserve my opinion of the defense until after the Mich game. For 2 years, Knowles has yet to stop a Mich drive in the second half. Last year FG, TD, FG, FG, victory formation (good thing the clock ran out). How do you play in the biggest game when the Game is on the line? Don’t care how you played against Youngstown State. Hopefully it gets done this year, we will see.
I really thought Hicks would prove himself early, at 6 3” 230 and plenty of speed he’s similar to Styles. Hope it all comes together for him next year and he can rotate with Simon and Styles.
