"We've learned through our exhaustive work that renovating our current stadium will simply not solve many operational issues and would be a short-term approach," the Haslams said. "With more time to reflect, we have also realized that without a dome, we will not attract the type of large-scale events and year-round activity to justify the magnitude of this public-private partnership."

We're 5-3 in our last 8 games.

0-3 against ranked opponents..

I love Coach Day..... but man, not a wake-up call is pretty weak sauce...

I thought the best thing he did last season was come out swinging after that ND game, team rallied around that..

This just feels like "we'll get em next time"..

Day said Ohio State was prepared for Oregon's onside kick, but the situation still worked out in the Ducks' favor.

And I still don't buy this..  You don't defend an onside kick by putting Caleb Downs in and then have everyone running a kick return but him The tape doesn't lie, we've got 5 guys up on the line, not a hands team, and 4 of them bail immediately.. that's not how you protect against an onside kick.

I realize you can quickly get into the weeds on how to grade the defense, but through 6 games there have only been a handful of really meaningful plays. These scores would be a lot worse if they were graded on when it counted. Burke got roasted, Ransom time after time ( when it matters) doesn't deliver.

On top of that. I don't know how you grade the defense when the head coach appears to be to passive to lay down the law on that side of the ball.

I dont care who he played for, Mason Graham is a 10 year starter and pro-bowler who wont take a play off. I'd draft him in an instant if given the chance.

Not their fault, but I'd give the WR group more like a B. There have been some individual mistakes, just recently Smith slides like a half yard too early on that last drive and we lose 15 seconds), but I think the coaches should have done a much better job of getting dudes ready. We basically haven't played WR 4,5,6,7 and 8 even though we've been up HUGE in games.

One of the BIGGEST knocks on last years team was the offense was basically "find MHJ"...  this years its more of find Smith and EE, but then what happens. We get in a tight game and those two are out of gas. They kept tapping out in the 4th quarter. Then we bring in dudes with no experience..

Who knows what they will do with the offensive line. I know in real time it seemed like Michalski held up ok, but then EVERYONE breaking down tape after the game said he had a lot of issues.. You can easily make the argument that the only two guys this team couldn't afford to lose were Howard and Simmons.... at least they have two weeks...

I[m not talking about this season. Browns have 3 more games before the deadline and the season is already over.. I'm talking about a guy who's available you can win with next season. The Watson experiment is nearing the end of the line, he may still be on the roster and you have to give yourself a chance to win in 2025.

But I get it, they'll tank and then take Deion's kid and when that goes horribly wrong, because it will, they'll be back at the same spot again... big a game manager and build around that... this isn't hard...

I find it impossible to believe Knowles suddenly can't coach football. We have athletes everywhere. It all comes back to us getting no pressure, no sacks in big games and that leaves our defensive backs chasing guys for 5 seconds or more.

It's Larry Johnson, you won't convince he's not the problem...  it's not recruiting, it's not coaching, it's how he manages game day, like it's a 2005 big ten game..

And that's on Coach Day..

Comment 15 Oct 2024

Their grades are so bad lately... they said Howard, who was running for his life after we lost two starters only got pressured 25% of the time, and Gabriel 40%.. it's a joke..

They seem to be grading pressure on the pocket and not the QB... like Sawyer or JTT got pressure on the pocket, even though they were nowhere near the QB... we didn't touch Gabriel.. that's not pressure..

Retire no, but we he take a demotion and stay, doubt it???

The game has passed him, this isn't 10 years ago when guys with the sort of athleticism we have on the defensive line could just routinely beat slow most unathletic slobs.

You have to be creative, run stunts. move guys around, show different formations..

He doesn't want to do any of that..

It's Coombs all over again.. he should have demoted last year, but because of what he has meant to the program and just can't seem to do it..

You are paying Knowles to run the defense.. let him run the defense.. not whatever it is we have right now where its Knowles calls the defense but has to react to whatever Johnson wants to do.. its stupid..

You want to keep playing Watson just because they owe him money? Putting the off the field stuff to the side, he looks washed... Winston is just a different version of Watson, and I have ZERO interest in DTR.. The draft class is pretty garbage, free agency is going to be garbage.. NE pivoted to Maye, Brissett is still young, knows the offense and this team needs to just do the freaking game manager thing.

He's going to be available... and I just love him as a plan B...

I'm open to listening to a better option.. who is under center when the inevitable happens, they move on from Watson..

I thought he was fantastic.... Still feel like the play calling let him down the last few plays, Seemed obvious Kelly and Day wanted us to get to the 30 and we were forcing everything, instead of just moving the ball forward and having that timeout..

two thoughts though. Does he have the right cleats on? I don't ever remember an OSU QB slipping as much as he has the first 6 games.

Second thing, that game was why you don't take your foot off the gas in those early games. What happened? We got into a tight game and lost our best blocking tight end and abandoned the run. We were forced to go more 3,4 and even 5 WR looks... and we had a bunch of dudes out there with basically no experience because when they could have gotten that experience Coach Day was having Devin Brown stand around for 30 seconds and then handing the ball off... it got worse because both Smith and Emeka got winded and kept tapping out of plays..

No reason to get people hurt or just run up the score, but it beyond ridiculous that WRs 4,5,6,7 and 8 have 17 total catches combined, given how lopsided most of our games have been.. then when you need to lean on them, they have no experience and Howard is just out there only looking at Smith and Emeka..

Same result if it had been reviewed. Only way the clock stops there and gets overturned if it was a first down, that would have stopped the clock.. it wasn't a first down and he was still up with 1 second on the clock so its a running clock, he started his slide basically under a second and not at zero, no chance you get a TO like that..

His best option at that point would have been to see if Smith could have blocked everyone and tried to run it all the way..

No one was going off the field. They just assumed given the environment the refs would miss it pre-snap, and despite Coach Day YELLING AT THE REFS, they did miss it...

They just put the 12th guy deep which allowed them to play aggressive press coverage on our WRs with no fear of getting torched for the game winner.

It was out of time-out, and kudos to them. They correctly guessed Kelly was going to overload one side of the field, which just made it even easier to defend..

Go Bucks!!!

Comment 14 Oct 2024

I think they absolutely did it on purpose. 5 yards for 5 seconds basically at that point in the game from where we were on the field is a no brainer..

When I watch the replay, I'm still wondering if Kelly didn't think we had a timeout left. He abandoned the run even when we got into FG range, and he's throwing the ball in a sideline flood package. There's 10 seconds, middle of the field was open all game. It's like he forgot there was a two minute warning and thought we blew through all 3 timeouts..

Comment 14 Oct 2024

It's the same thing though. Knowles built everything around the jack/Leo position and can't do that here because Larry Johnson only wants to do 2 ends and 2 tackles on every snap. Knowles is hamstrung by what he can do and what he can call in game. It compounds things, as plenty of people have pointed out, because we start calling plays from a point of weakness knowing Larry Johnson's line isn't being setup to win. Larry Johnson's fix has been to rotate them more, keep them fresh, but it's still hat on hat. that's just not going to work against good teams.

All of that is why we don't blitz that often, Knowles has baked in the defensive line not winning and he's trying to protect the middle of the field and that just leaves the corners and safeties on islands.. Normally that works, but as we saw on Saturday their WRs were just faster than Burke.. but then they adjusted, gave Burke help in the second half and the explosive plays stopped..

There's not another team in football with as many weapons as Oregon has, and we still held them to 32 points despite getting ZERO pass rush the whole night.

Go Bucks!!!

Comment 14 Oct 2024

Knowles HAS TO USE two defensive ends and two tackles and more often than not they are in fixed positions with very little that's not hat on hat.

That's not the game today. We see it all the time in sports. The game changes and coaches don't adjust. Offensive lineman, especially tackles, have made the biggest jump in athleticism the past decade. You just aren't going to beat teams as good as Oregon and Michigan and Georgia who have that type of talent on the offensive line, trying to do it hat on hat.

Look at the NFL. Look at the top pass rushers, look how their d-coordinators put them in positions to win. Do you see that with Larry Johnson? JTT goes up against the right tackle most of the game, Sawyer the left...

When's the last time we saw 4 defensive ends on the field, 5 d lineman, 3 d lineman? Stunts, letting someone like JTT pick who he wants to go against. Look at someone as talented like Myles Garrett. They still move him around almost every snap to put him in a situation to win.

Look at what Knowles did at OK State that won him on the accolades, we aren't doing that here because Coach Johnson still wants 2 tackles and 2 ends on every play...

Listen to everyone who's  around the program yesterday and today.. they keep pointing to the defensive line. If we put pressure on the QBs Stetson Bennett, JJ McCarthy and just recently Dillon Gabriel don't have all day to let explosive plays develop.

It's not talent.. it's scheme.. Again, if you hire someone like Knowles to fix your defense... he has to be able to fix the defense..

I appreciate everything Larry Johnson has done and in no way want him fired, I just think it's time that he's not calling plays on gameday. Let Knowles handle the scheme and the rotations. That's what he's paid to do.

Go Bucks!!

Comment 13 Oct 2024

Fired, no, at least not yet. But he gave away calling plays because he was going to be the CEO of the team. Time to start acting like one. Coach Day should be in charge of EVERYTHING. if he doesn't like something, fix it. He's had an eternal blindspot to Larry Johnson. He's allowing Coach Johnson to just try and do hat on hat 4 on 5. That works against Akron and Marshall, that's not going to work against teams like Oregon. Again, nearly 40 pass attempts and no sacks. Coach Johnson does nothing creative with our defensive line.

Coach Day hired Knowles to run the defense, so let him run the freaking defense. Instead its the hodge podge of Knowles running the back 7 and Johnson having full say on the front 4. There's NEVER any cohesion between the two groups.

You want to get really mad.

If you look at the rule book the refs had two choices, dead ball foul illegal substitution pre-snap which is a 5 yard penalty clock back to 10 seconds. Coach Day was screaming at the official, they should have stopped the play.. but they didn't...

Or they missed it pre-snap, they let the play run, which creates a live ball foul, clock runs down to 6 seconds, but it then becomes illegal participation,.. which is a 15 yard penalty...

The refs screwed the Buckeyes... it's either time back on clock and 5 yards illegal substitution pre-snap, or time off and 15 yards illegal participation if they let the play run...

Should have setup a 45 yard FG to win the game..

Refs gave the Bucks worst case scenario on a blown call. Took the time off and only gave the pre-snap penalty yardage..

The got it right, we just didn't seem to be prepared for the running clock and then had to rush to snap the ball and lost like 5 seconds.. total wasted down..

Comment 13 Oct 2024

I don't think Burke is trash or bad, I think he just got matched up against dudes he couldn't run with. Even at the NFL level you don't have a ton of WRs that can run 4.2 40s. Tez Johnson and Stewart are FAST.

The failing was not recognizing this and giving him help over the top after that first big play. Probably should have had help from the opening kickoff, and I'd assume if we see them again in Indy he will...

They did make the adjustment in the 2nd half and that fixed the issue..
