My watch party saw a potential targeting situation that wasn’t called. I don’t recall the exact play, but I don’t think there was more than one of those situations. Very frustrating how wishy washy that call is.

Kyle, do we have a Jim Knowles problem with the defense and he just isn't a good enough coach? As you said, we don't disguise the defense and we don't provide enough movement to create defensive opportunities. I guess my question is, are we seeing the same defensive scheme that he ran at Okla St? I thought he was known for the very things our current defense lacks.
Completely agree. This is true with average WRs and any decent QB. Give the QB time and he WILL find a receiver.
Our issues lie solely with coaching. I don't know if it's Knowles, Johnson, or a combination due to whatever their relationship is. The defensive front 7 against Oregon made no sense to me. We had little to no aggression. We have no creativity with the pass rush. I'm still tired of seeing blitzers run straight into the backs of our own guys or into an offensive lineman.
I have been a Jim Knowles fan since his hire. At the very least its hard not to appreciate how much better our defense is from just a few years ago, although the bar was set quite low before he got here. But...he describes his dream defense as one that creates havoc and confusion. Our defense does not even come close to that. We allow opposing offenses to dictate the game when we play above average talented players and coaches. That has to change.
Personally, I'm frustrated so many people are commending and celebrating Lanning for the 12 men on the field antics to burn clock. While I understand its in the rules, I find that tactic to be a very unsportsmanlike way to play the game. No one thinks players faking injuries is ok, so why would the intentional 12 men on the field be viewed any differently? It also makes no sense to me why the NFL resets the clock when the penalty for this is on the defense and has been for several years, but the NCAA didn't adopt it.
Stop freaking out! Sure a win would be glorious. Oregon came to play for 60 minutes and we can’t use that against our team. Sure, we all wish our D got more pressure, but who could predict Burke would struggle??? We need to play our ball for the remainder of the season and beat the ducks in the rematch. Making the rematch game will get us in the playoff, although I would prefer the bye week

"The ability to use your legs is really, really important, because that becomes the X-factor."
WE KNOW lol
I'd like to hear from former players on how they would have reacted to some guy "that no one knew" yelling out plays on the sideline during a game. I can't imagine players or coaches wouldn't have told him to shut the hell up.
This struck me in the article as well. He constantly says "I don't remember exactly" but then rattles off very specific information that happened years ago. Look, there are certainly random pieces of knowledge that I remember years later for no apparent reason, but the sheer amount of details he remembers implies only 2 possibilities: 1) He is actually a savant of some nature with some level of photographic type memory or 2) He is a habitual liar and nothing he says can be taken at its word. I'm willing to bet there is some combination of the two happening here with a strong lean to possibility #2.
This^
Stetson Bennett was an 8 year player without a degree. Miami currently has a 9th year TE. I think he has gotten a few medical years
Missouri drops 12 spots losing to a ranked team on the road, but bama and Tennessee barely fall in the rankings after losing to unranked teams??? Screw the rankings lol. I just want to be the ones holding the trophy in the end
Need our team to be ready from the rip. Lanning will give his team a loud Rah-Rah speech before the game about how we are just playing for clicks. Oregon will come out strong and I would love to shut them up immediately.
Neither team is good. Nessler and Danielson sound like bitter old white men that don’t think they should have to pronounce names correctly. McCoy(pause) couldn’t complete(pause) a sentence without(pause) stopping to think(pause) every few words. He was horrible even when he did string a thought together.
^^This. I think this game will give a great idea of how THE game would go if played now.
Impressive game yesterday for you Chase. What, 2 TDs for the Bengals?
I also wonder why the big cushions on their receivers in the first half. DI giving a 10 yard cushion on their TD made no sense to me. I guess he is playing off to prevent a long strike and buy time until he can make adjustments? Thats the only thing I can think
The sack Marshall got was all on Fryar. In fact, I think Fryar is still in his stance and hasn't moved yet.
I might be wrong here, but I think Sonny's approach to high tackles is to prevent the runner from falling forward.
Lot of love for the left side of the line, rightfully so. Is Fryar the best RT on the team for reals?
Granted, I am no professional, but..
1) Did Fryar have a bad game or just some bad plays? Is he the best option at RT??
2) Defense gave the standard "Oh shit, we have to play today" effort after getting smacked in the first quarter/half. I'd like to chalk that up to they didn't think they needed to show up today.
3) Why can't Will Howard throw a spiral? I just don't get it. I don't think it's necessarily a liability, but as others have mentioned, in less than ideal weather it could be.
Got it, thank you for the response!
Kyle, would you expect to see more of Howard running against better teams to try and suck defenders closer to the line of scrimmage and keep passing windows more open? I ask because the projection in your article seems as though you are saying that if our offense keeps the status quo Howard might struggle against tougher foes. Just curious how you expect our offense to adapt to tougher competition.
