I'm not familiar with Wasatch Academy. Are they more of an academic high school?

Are they known for their athletic teams?

They're one of the top HS basketball programs in the country. Roddy Gayle played there.

Thanks, MrB24. I found a post on Roddy Gayle on what Wasatch Academy would be like. Someone told Gayle...

that there was going to be nothing to do and you’re only going to be playing basketball and going to school.    [per bvmsports.com]

Not surprising in a town of 3,260 (per Wikipedia). One hopes that Mobley's academics and hoops will be in good shape when he enrolls at Ohio State.

Wasatch Academy is a liberal arts boarding school that is known for their athletics, yes, but especially their basketball program, which competes on the national level rather than the state level.

Roddy Gayle transferred there and played on a couple really good teams with multiple D1 players, including the likes of Nolan Hickman (Gonzaga) and Chris Bell (Syracuse).

Wasatch looks loaded for next season with the addition of Mobley. They already have Jeremiah Johnson, a 4-star 2024 PG, as well as 5-star 2025 wing guard Isiah Harwell. They could use a little help in the frontcourt, not sure who else might be transferring in, but they will have a senior PF Malick Diallo who is a T150 player. Should be a good team.

Who cares it’s a new day and age. As long as he still signs with us

Oh really?  You think most people go to 3 different high schools?

A lot of top basketball players do these days. Top hockey players regularly will end up doing the same based on the path they take to play at the highest levels throughout their HS years. Happens quite a bit in football as well.

You're acting like it's out of the norm for top athletes when it really isn't. I'm sure there can be many conversations about whether that's a good or bad thing overall but it's not out of the norm.

Well for one a lot of top HS players switch schools multiple times now. More importantly, once again I repeat who cares lol he’s a really good player who will be a Buckeye.

When he leaves OSU after one year I will think of you.

I’ll interpret your comments positively and mark your forecast as one and done lottery pick.

And who could blame Mobley for leaving for a lotto pick?! I don't know about you, OSU069, but I'm loving mtrotb's enthusiasm for Mobley's potential.

Whether Mobley leaves OSU after one year will have nothing to do with the fact that he transferred to a prep academy in HS.

This is the norm for good basketball players as they try to prepare for college. Frankly, we should be glad Mobley is spending a year at a top national program like Wasatch before coming here.

So much for the rumors about Mobley transferring back home to Ohio. Still this is a smart move for him. They play a national schedule and he'll get to play against great competition.

except with a loaded roster, his playing time will most likely, be reduced.

Juni is a top 50 prospect in his own right. Who’s to say he doesn’t start?

HS

I don't think so, not much really. He played a ton for Bishop Gorman so maybe in that sense it will be reduced a little, but I expect Jeremiah Johnson, Isiah Harwell, and Juni Mobley will be sharing a lot of the minutes at the 1-3 for Wasatch. Now maybe Wasatch adds some more high level guys here who would take some of those minutes, but that's how I am seeing it at the moment. I guess SDSU commit Taj Degourville just transferred there, too, but I don't think he'd really hinder Mobley's minutes much. Same for the Nwuli brothers who are more forwards. Chris Nwuli is a Top 25 player in the 2025 class...

Yeah, Wasatch is gonna be good.

Reggie Lewis was 6th man in HS (Baltimore Dunbar) while dividing time with other future NBA stars.  He proceeded to a successful college career at Northeastern then NBA career with the Celtics before his life was tragically cut short.  Great programs develop great players.

Wasatch plays in the premier HS basketball league in the country.  ITs the same league Easter just transferred into and same league guys like Middleton, Gayle and Okpara played in.  It will be the best competition he can face and should better prepare him for the collegiate level.
