After both Georgia and Xichigan killed us with nothing but big plays? Yes. We didn't have elite athletes at Safety and CB to make up for it. We now have 1 elite athlete in the secondary. And a couple CB's on the bench. Teams like Oregon with experienced QB's like Gabriel hope and pray you bring some extra rushers. It almost guarantees 1v1 somewhere. We need to do some different things with our line. More twists and stunts. Drop JTT and bring 2 LB's. Bring Downs in hot and have Styles drop into coverage. We are uber predictable in our alignment and assignments. That's fine against weaker talent teams. But elite teams will find a way to score and score.
Bullets will be back to save the season, and Stroud's dignity.
This is pretty much my feeling. You can have a cookie cutter defense against Western Kentucky and blow their doors off. You can do that type of thing against Purdue and win comfortably. You might be able to beat Penn State at home during a night game like that too.
But Oregon, Texas, Georgia, Alabama, and the like will carve you to pieces if you show up with exactly what it is they've seen on film all season. You've got to mix some things up and make something happen, even if like you said you drop a DE in the flat and bring a LB from a different angle... SOMETHING!

His defensive play calling is somewhere between aggressive and bend but don't break. Starting to get buyers remorse with him and the narrative that "I have to do better" is getting old. We have the playmakers. He appears to get outcoached in these big time matchups.
Yeah. I'm not saying we need to be coked out FSU or Miami from the 90s, but if we're actually a premier program, then we should not be the ones pissing our pants and trying to fight off emotional trauma. It's the opponent that should have the fear of God in them, not us.
Then you SHOULD believe it because of all the evidence that we ARE weak. Because Day is weak. Hires weak coaches and they produce weak players. That being said, this OP is just giving more excuses.
If our coaching staffers are that mentally weak that they are still shitting down their leg because of a bad day 3 years ago, we should fire the entire bunch.
That being said, I don’t think that’s the case and don’t want to fire anyone yet. The grass isn’t always greener.
Against Oregon, he had the DL stunt 2x's only... in the 2nd half - I guess this was an adjustment. He sent only 3 blitzes total and preferred to use masked blitzing (cover 0 look, then drop 7 or 8) to try to confuse... the problem is that the only times Gabriel didn't complete a ball was when we actually blitzed or stunted... so wtf was he calling? He was calling a scared game or was getting the directive from Day to keep it conservative and in front of them at all times... I think he may have been handcuffed by Day... I think Day is the one traumatized by all the big plays that were given up in past games...

So everytime Ohio state loses now it’s because Michigan stole signs and were cheaters? Haha. Come on bro. Maybe don’t go cover 0 and leave yourself susceptible to big plays. If Knowles did that against Oregon it would have been worse. At some point players who are being paid very well need to step up and make plays. You guys will be fine you still have everything that you want in front of you.
sometimes i wonder how america continues to tread the way it is, then i see a thread like this, and it all begins to me make sense. instead of holding people accountable for a bad job (ryan day and jim knowles) we make excuses for them with something that is minor to their big picture failures.

Let him cook.
That's a nice name. Todd Gack. Is that Dutch?
He didn't, though. We lost to Georgia for the same defensive reasons as we lost to TCUN that year.
Georgia cheated and knew our plays pre snap too?

Think it is more from Day than from Knowles on blitzing.

A guy with an Ivy League and Big 12 background always had me cautious. I would have preferred someone from the SEC. I still do,
Those SEC defense are cooking this year…looks more like the Big 12.

If we are still affected by them then we are weak. I refuse to believe that.

He is afraid to fail. And because of that, he is failing.
