We have zero pass rush which is leading to our corner backs getting burned. Go to get some pressure.

The biggest issue right now is in the QB room. We were blessed with great talent that we've come to expect as a given. Day whiffed on McCarthy. I will fully acknowledge that.
Prior to the season, I expected this to be a down year for the Buckeyes. New QB. O-line graduations. Defense still improving, but not there yet. I thought we could have 3-4 losses.
The loss on Saturday broke my heart also. But if I'm being honest with myself, I didn't expect this to be a team that contended for the CFP from the beginning of the year. We DO need to shake up the coaching staff to find more players like Laurenitis that instill that gritty, dawg attitude. I saw elite skill players not wanting to get their noses bloodied many times this year - blocking, finishing routes, etc. Day is used to coaching "sports cars" not "tanks". We need a little more of that gritty mentality.
Today, I had to remind myself that I fully expected this to be a bit of a “down season” for Ohio State”. New QB; key O-line graduations; defense still unproven.
I thought 3-4 losses could be in the cards this season. That said, yesterday’s loss did break my heart. I do think there was a ton a progression to get this team to 11-1.
I believe that our coaches (aside from special teams) did a really good job technically and schematically coaching up our players. What’s missing is that gritty, dawg mentality and confidence. That’s a culture thing. Urban’s guys had it. Tressel’s guys had it. I’m not seeing it here yet.
I think the team takes on the some of the personality of their head coach. I’m not saying we need to get rid of Day by any stretch. Maybe just add a few more position coaches (Laurenitis) to help drive that gritty, dawg culture in the program.
I think there is plenty of blame to go around. This is team had more overall talent than any other team in the B1G. Yet, we struggle with teams we should easily handle (Maryland) and get throttled by really good teams. That’s a system/culture issue, not a talent issue - DB’s included.
There just doesn’t seem to be a “killer instinct” on this team. Everyone is nice. Everyone “takes responsibility”. When we get punched in the mouth, we just sort of either panic (Day) or do nothing (Knowles). We don’t punch back. Guys should get pissed off when they get punched in the mouth. We just sort of get scared and play tight.
Eichenberg seems to get it. He played like his hair was on fire, even out of position. A few others seem to get it.
The difference between lunging at a guy and making a tackle in space isn’t talent, it’s will. It’s focus. It’s mental toughness. Trying isn’t good enough. Make the F-ing tackle.
All the mental mistakes are also a lack of this mental toughness. How many games this season has D Jones jumped off sides? How many times have our Cornerbacks (Martinez) been beaten by poor technique?
Are there consequences for these mistakes? I guess not. They still trot out there every week and do the same boneheaded things.
This program needs a cultural shift to real accountability. Not just words.
OK, I feel better now. Whew.
ND is playing most 2 high safeties. There are soft spots in the zone that the receivers need to find. Hopefully halftime adjustments.
D looks better, except for one series.
The coaching staff lost this team in the second half of the Purdue game and they never really got them back. Not sure why but it obvious that the chemistry is gone.
It’s all coming down to O line play in this game for Ohio State. We’ve got much better skill positions. If they do their jobs, the Bucks should be just fine, but expect the Sparty defense to challenge the edges often on pass rushes. Ohio State can’t FORCE the run game like they did last week.
You might be right there my man. But poor tackling is poor tackling. These guys looked like they did not want to be out there on the field at that point.
When we went down 28-6 with 11 minutes to go the defense shut down. They gave up two more TD’s on long runs with poor tackling and little effort. Both 40+ yard runs, one on a short pass. They showed no heart at that point.
The thing that concerns me most about that game is the Defense appearing to QUIT midway through the Fourth Quarter.
Getting beat is one thing. Quitting is completely another.
It’s one loss. Albeit a very bad one. Let’s pump the brakes for a few minutes and see how this team adjusts during a well needed break. Urban is not headed to the trash heap anytime soon. He’s a great coach with a ton of pride and love for the university.
He won’t do anything to hurt his reputation or the reputation of Ohio State. A place we all claim to love.
I think we would all agree that changes need to be made...scheme and probably personnel. I’d bet money that happens. I don’t think the game has passed him by; he’s in his mid 50’s for crying out loud.
Does loyalty cloud his judgement at times -yes - but is he one hell of a football coach and a proven winner? YES That’s not even a debate.
We could do a hell of a lot worse than having Urban Meyer as our coach. I see the same things and have the same frustrations that everyone is complaining about. Is he a fraud like Finebaum claims - HELL NO.
My prediction is that our staff gets things turned around and we win the games that we need to so that the game with TTUN at the end of November is an epic! We have too much talent to piss this season away.
We look very slow to the ball.
Any idea why we stopped running the ball in the red zone?
That was an amazing series of 3 clips. Very well done!
I am guessing they went all out and bought a Commodore 64.
Wow. As good as coach Meyer was, my hats are off to those three young men. Incredibly poised and articulate. I am sure their parents are very proud. As a Buckeye alumni, I can assure you that I am very proud of them. Well done.
Birm, Nate Craig Myers update?
I am excited to see the new design for the 15th Avenue renovation project. That said, as someone who spent some of the best years of my life living on 15th and Indianola, I sure hope this place doesn't turn into a new "Gateway". Sure places like the Distillery (Bernie's) and Mama's Pasta and Brew are dumps, but they ooze un-replaceable character. I am hopeful that these two little gems are retained with some new (affordable) digs. It is good to hear that this area will be developed and owned by multiple real estate companies. This should give the area 'character' that The Gateway District just does not have. I just hope the redevelopment does not price out the smaller independent shops, restaurants and bars that make this area classic.
I think it is a nice touch that she is wearing a hat with her dad's name on in.
Congrats Coach. What will it take to keep you here? You know next year is your pinnacle year. Call coach Meyer and Mr. Smith. Sit down and propose a deal. You know you are the driver's seat.
Go get it, and please stay here.
This team has to be one of the most 'fun to watch' Buckeye groups ever. In the past, I was always nervous watching the Bucks play every Saturday. It was more of chore, than it was fun. With this team, I just sit back and enjoy. Very well coached and very entertaining.
Brilliant! Especially the Purdue updates...
I think your takes on cut blocking is spot on. There are rule changes this year to more aggressively protect the QB from hits below the knee. What about the D-line? An injury is what worries me most.
38-20 Bucks
You know, I have seen this happen before in some companies. Nameless, faceless investigators go into a situation with the end goal in mind - truth be damned. The RIGHT thing to do in this situation would be to do a true unbiased, thorough investigation.
Not simply talking to nine people and hastily putting together a report to justify a predetermined outcome. I do agree with the other posters that it will be unlikely for Drake to reverse his decision. I am guess this goes to litigation or more likely a settlement for Mr. Waters.
