Yep. I keep getting blasted for having the audacity to point out our deficiencies on the OL and DL. Those two position groups are hands down the most important groups to the success of a football team. Always has been and always will be. Having Grade A players on the LOS can make a bunch of 3 star skill players look all pro. I love that we have 4 and 5 stars all over the place at the skill positions. It's great. But that gets greatly diminished when we can't control the LOS in crunch time against top teams. I really wish we would recruit OL like we do QB and WR. We have to get our numbers up there. Why can't we develop those 3 and 4 star O linemen ala Iowa and Wisconsin.

Buckeye fan since about 1975 when my dad and grandpa would listen to Woody's teams on the radio. Grew up in Cbus area. OSU alum 1994, back when High Street was still a glorious spectacle of drunken debauchery.

Our running game looked very good against Iowa's defense. Iowa's defense was good. Very disciplined experienced Hawkeye unit. It was a compliment to OSU's Oline that they were able to control the game against a good Iowa defense. Very strange to me that that would be met with criticism.
Maybe you overlooked the word inconsistent.
Yeah, we looked great against a very good Iowa squad. No doubt. Looked pretty good in the 1st half too. How'd they do in the 2nd half on Saturday rushing the ball? I'm guessing it was less than 40 yds. Inconsistent.
Ridethedaytrain - DV all you want but how many yards did we rush for in the 2nd half? Yes, the O-line was problem 1b on Saturday (Dline was 1a).
The defensive philosophy needs to change. Our front 7 a very passive. They are too reactionary and do not attack. When we do actually blitz it seems like they are usually delayed and not off of the snap. Until we decide to try and affect the QB, this is what it will look like. Really hard to imagine us suddenly stopping an offense with a good QB for less than 30 points.
Our oline can't execute anywhere near consistent enough against good teams. Day recognizes this so the play book shrinks. Opposing Dlines just tee off on us and he abandons the run. But still, I dont care if you have Mike Vick and Barry Sanders back there, if your oline gets blown up over and over, your play call isn't going to matter.
Fix the oline. Until we have an oline that can at least hold their own, let alone dominate, this is what it's going to look like. And that just got a whole bunch harder with Simmons gone.
No DV from me, but our guys lost alot more physical matchups at the point of attack then Oregon did. I've rewatched most of the game twice. I'm not wrong.
Correct Southbuc. At some point you have to win some of these games though. When the chips are down, in the 4th quarter especially, we just get bullied at the LOS. It's now a predictable pattern. Too much finesse. Not enough smash mouth. It is what it is.
Physically manhandling your matchup; winning individual match ups, especially at the LOS when we have the ball. You know, the opposite of what we keep seeing against decent teams. We should be able to do that AT LEAST half of the time. Nope. We get pushed around like the JV team.
I actually was ok with last night. We played legit our C- game and should probably have been blown out. Instead we were a bad OPI away from winning it anyway. We need to be better, and hopefully will be
This is good perspective. My problem with Day's program though is that we simply cannot consistently control the LOS on either side of the ball. Because of that, he ends up having to abandon the run too often. And when you have to throw it all over the place, mistakes are going to happen. All 11 guys have to execute perfectly. That is hard to do. It's far easier to control a game using brute force for 3 or 4 yard gains than it is to execute goddamn bubble screens. ONE guys misses a block and it looks like shit. But I get it. Our OL just isn't good enough to line up and smash people for 3 yards. That is fucking ridiculous and unacceptable in my book. I fear it won't change under his watch. He says the right things but he STILL hasn't fixed it. Like at all in 5 years.
This is what I'm most disappointed about. Oregon is really good. No shame in giving up big plays to a talented team. But the numerous mental mistakes really says volumes. Just not ready for prime time. So tired of all the excuses from Day. Can't believe I fell for all the hype AGAIN. Until we start winning more physical match-ups at the LOS, this will be the result. What a bummer.. Thought we had it fixed. Nope. OSU is now the bitch in physical matchups. Just sickening that we aren't at least the more physical disciplined team.
If your day is gone, and you wanna ride on.....
Hard to imagine PSU or TCUN given the family tradition.

Having an Oline that can push people around and 3 elite RBs gives me confidence that OSU can control the game. And with our perimeter weapons we are never out of a game. The defense makes me a little nervous though so I am gun shy. Buckeye til I die but it's been awhile since we've won a marquee game like this. I think Oregon will move the ball on us but we will be able to do the same. I think 31-27 OSU.
Do they still practice and drill on how to cover a fumble...and more importantly, how NOT to try and recover a fumble? It is maddening, in 2024, to watch trained D1 athletes pounce on a loose ball like they are trying to bust it like a balloon.

and TCUN.
Correct. They are going to try and milk everyone of us fans for as much as they can possibly get away with for as long as we let them do it. Until they start to kill the interest like what pay-per-view did to boxing popularity. However, popularity for CFB is very very high; they have a long way to go before they even approach crossing the line.
I suspect the extra 2 or 3 hours is less of an issue than the fact most of those losses were bad teams as road dogs. Not at all surprising.
Payout on a 5 team parlay is roughly 25X. That will go up or down depending on individual odds for each leg of the parlay.
Patience on offense. We will probably have to throw to open up the run. If the Defense can play gap sound in the run game we will win by 2 or 3 TD. I predict a 34-13 Buckeye win.
Beat em at their own game Coach! When we don't score we need our punters to come thru. I think Iowa's D will be sound enough to get stops. Seems like it's been awhile since we've downed multiple punts inside the 5 yd line.
Anyone else remember that MSU troll...."Minister of Propaganda" or something like that. Dude had delusions of MSU being on OSUs level based on MSU pulling a couple wins out of their asshole against us back in '11 thru '15. I wonder where that insufferable douche bag is now.
