I do not really know that there is any issue between them, but someone should at least ask the question. It is the 800 pound gorilla in the room. And Coach Day can't simply ignore it if there is. That is what he is there for. That said, I probably would not answer the question; it is internal, not public. But the press (journalists) should at least ask.
M? If that Dline can mount pressure on Gabriel.
Great to have you in Buckeye Nation Ivan!
Good. Lets maintain our integrity and do it right . . . and win anyway
NPB: This pretty much says it. https://www.landgrantholyland.com/2024/10/13/24268967/ohio-state-buckeyes-football-recap-loss-oregon-ducks-larry-johnson-jim-knowles-2024.
If I were managing it, either start pressuring the passer or one has to go. To me, LJ has earned the right to set his own retirement date. But I hope he either gets into the 21st century or accepts retirement in glory.
Nebraska is a new game. Lets get the defense with it. PS. I do not think that Burke is as bad as he looked. Injured? He will get targeted now. Lets see how he does.
Another true test for our Dline to pressure (and sack!) the QB, who was almost one of ours. I love visiting Memorial Stadium and its fans, but that is NOT a reason to show any mercy. That means you Michalski . . .next man up!! We got your back; you blow them out the front! Get ready Fitzpatrick; get ready Armstrong. GO Buckeyes!
They beat the Spartans at home after only six days rest and travelling three time zones away. We beat the Spartans on the road. We also scored one more touchdown and had to "give" the Spartans their lone score. The Spartans put two legitimate scores on the Ducks. We lost because we are still struggling to get a pass rush (https://www.landgrantholyland.com/2024/10/13/24268967/ohio-state-buckeyes-football-recap-loss-oregon-ducks-larry-johnson-jim-knowles-2024) and Burke looking like . . . well, not Burke (Is he injured?). We still would have won the dumb call at the end notwithstanding with some decent time management. I'm still mad, which is unimportant. I hope the team is too. I'm loyal till its all over, but there are changes that need to be made . . . to make EVERYONE happier. Go Bucks!
I just looked at the bottom of the Coaches' poll to see M sandwiched between Army and Navy. Hope you are chuckling as much as I am.
October polls? The loss is the problem, not the polls. We had the horses to win, even on the road in a "hostile" (I am NOT ready to concede that a stadium that only seats 54,000 is all that "hostile”) environment but just made too many mistakes. Neither our coaches nor players were really ready for a game of that magnitude. For those of you legitimately complaining about coaches, players, etc, I hear you. If you wrote it, I read it. But I have been a loyal fan for more than 60 years and I am not going anywhere. And those criticisms seldom help. The coaching staff has to step up and OWN the problems first, and I think many have. I like Coach Day’s statement that no single error cost the game (that is what I always told goalies who gave up the winning goal; after all, ten players in front of you could have made the stop too) and Coach Knowles’ statement that the mistakes were on him. Other than Denzel Burke, I thought everyone else played well enough to win if the mistake level was brought down to even the Oregon level. And I think Denzel is better than that. He and Coach Walton must solve that problem. The mistakes are a lack of mental concentration (and toughness) that the coaches must address. I try to get people to laugh at how they could ever have even made the mistake because it is so easy (I know it isn’t) but it builds self-confidence. The coaches must formulate their own way. My only real concern is the loss of Josh Simmons, but . . . next man up. Simmons wasn't Simmons when he first transferred either. Let’s see how they tune up in the ‘Shoe when the Huskers come to visit then roar into Beaver Stadium. It is time to quit taking prisoners! I might just go to lend my voice, while it lasts. Go Buckeyes!
Kudos to the health staff; and to the team members. They are the ones responsible in the first instance for conditioning and caring for their bodies. Hope they come home just as healthy. Too bad they don't all get to travel. I'm ready! Go Buckeyes!
That game was painful for all of us. Good for Cody, who even got personally attacked on social media, admitting it but saying this game is about who we are now, not just revenge. Mature statement from the fifth year senior. Go Buckeyes!
At this point, the Ducks know our vulnerabilities, and we know theirs. I'm looking to see how we exploit theirs and remedy and scheme ours. I won't get upset if the Ducks have some success; they have the talent and coaching. It just seems like we have the better balanced team with a legitimate power run game. Travelling that far and playing in a really hostile environment are related concerns, but our players sure sound aware and respectful of the Ducks talent but not afraid of the challenge. They sound ready. I am!
That book is on my shelf and I STILL consult it. It is hardly only related to football. I often use a corollary when complimenting someone's capabilities who is facing stress: "If it is not hard, they would not need good people [like you]"! Ramzy always finds the timely Ohio State related quote. Coach Hayes, who I never played for, has always been a driving force to me. I hope people will say the same about Coach Day.
A lot of tests coming up Saturday. Can our Oline keep Howard clean? Can he pass accurately under pressure or will he panic and take bad risks instead of throwing it away? Can Fryar handle a speed rush? Line has looked good all year and our backs are falling forward. Ducks can and will attack our LB's. Can they defend middle field passes as well as swing passes and take good angles? Can the Dline put effective pressure on Gabriel? Does our maintaining EDT work across time zones since long travel times have hurt most teams? I think I am comfortable with every question I raised IF our focus and intensity are undiminished. Go Buckeyes. Ready Now!
Welcome!
At the beginning of the season, I did not see how they we could win this game. Now I am confidant we will. MSU had to travel a long way and play on only six days rest after playing us and still gave them a decent game. Three things I will watch closely: 1) can our line be as dominant as v Iowa; 2) Can Sonny repeat his performance, especially with only two LB's on the field; and 3) Can Will Howard throw against Oregon's DB's. We will see just how good we are, and just how good Oregon is. I was at the Iowa game; I can't believe Autzen is as loud; you just have to get used to the noise being reversed. Ready now!!!
I'm not much on cheating conspiracy theories, but the inability of essentially the same defensive players from a national championship team to replicate their defensive dominance is telling. Really sad. When you lose your integrity, what else is there? I will always respect and honor the game but M stunk the joint out and deserves zero respect.
I was at the game and when I saw Coach Day's and the teams determined faces as they marched into the 'Shoe, I knew they would play an aggressive game start to finish. Third Quarter doesn't surprise me although our first team D-Line played most of the game with no subs. They were relentless. With only a 7 point lead, the locker room must have been intense at halftime (I have heard anything specific). Not only Iowa players seemed to melt in the third quarter. So did their fans who were sitting near us.
